We love when we open all the doors to all the classes in the school and we can go and explore the other classrooms and play with a mixture of bairns from other classes!

We love… Shetland Youth Orchestra
What a way to start a Monday morning. We welcomed the Shetland Youth Orchestra to our school this morning. They performed a variety of “spooky themed” music – the favourites being Harry Potter and the Ghostbusters! Thanks to the Shetland Youth Orchestra for their visit.
We love…categorising materials
Today we were looking at materials, including metal, glass, plastic and wood. We spoke about natural materials as well as people-made materials before going on to do some sorting activities. The bairns did brilliant and some excellent team work and communication skills were also observed.
We love… learner led events
Thank you to everyone who came along this afternoon. Hope you had a lovely time. Was lovely seeing everyone here and from the smiles on the bairns faces, they had a great time.
We love… big questions
This week we have been lookin at how it gets dark at night and light during the day. The bairns listened really well to an input and we had a demonstration (by the children) on how the moon orbits Earth and how Earth orbits the sun. The bairns then went on to make their own paper version. Lots of lovely dialogue and discussions were overheard when carrying out their target.
We love… having our classroom outside
It was a gorgeous day so we decided to move our classroom outside. We did a mixture of targets and free play and we had a super time.
We love… weather instruments
This week, for our big question, we have been looking at the weather and instruments that could be used for measuring different types of weather. This included thermometers, barometers, anemometers, weathervanes and rain gauges. The bairns enjoyed learning about the different instruments and having a go of anemometers. They did a quiz on the different instruments and they did brilliantly. Next week our play project will be weather so I hope to see some of the things they learn this week roll over into next week.
We love… a busy class
The bairns are always on the go and we love seeing the different learning taking place through their play.
We love… tomatoes
Last year, the bairns planted some tomatoes at the local polycrub. We were delighted to bring some back with the group that visited this week. We got delicious red and yellow tomatoes so we had to have a taste. They were described as being delicious, yummy, sweet, juicy and tasty! We are lucky enough to have a group of bairns visit the polycrub on a Monday afternoon. We also had some tatties back and the canteen staff made some mashed tatties and some tattie salad. Was so lovely for the bairns to see their hard work in action and what it can produce. Thanks to all involved!
We love… sleep
This week, our big question has been about the importance of sleep. I asked if the children had any good ideas on how we could evidence our learning and Etta suggested, “Why don’t we get a photo of us pretending to sleep and then we can write things on it..?” I thought that this was a great idea and the rest of the class agreed!! Here are some of the things the bairns came up with… (Thanks to Etta for the super idea!)
