Batten Down da Hatches 2025

This afternoon our pupils rolled up their sleeves for our annual “Batten Down the Hatches” session, working together to prepare and tidy our school grounds and play equipment for the winter months. Pupils worked in their house teams—Lumbister, Brekon, Reafirth, and Arisdale— using their skills:  leadership, initiative, communication and determination.  Despite the showers, everyone embraced the spirit of “there’s no wrong weather, only the wrong clothes” !

Across the school grounds, pupils tackled a wide range of important jobs:

  • Stacking tyres, crates, and boxes neatly

  • Removing toys, crates, and rubbish from the grass

  • Sweeping stones off the playground

  • Digging up the remaining tatties

  • Digging over the yard and covering it with plastic

  • Collecting rubbish

  • A ball hunt through the ditches

  • Tidying verges around the playground and paths

  • Weeding the flowerpots at the front of the school

  • Cleaning moss from the paths using brushes and water

Our S3 pupils also deserve special recognition for their leadership. They took responsibility for delegating tasks and supporting the younger members of their teams.

A huge well done to all pupils, staff and parent helpers involved. You did a wonderful job, worked brilliantly together, and helped make our school grounds safe, tidy, and ready for winter.

Great work, everyone!
