Walls is a thriving community on the Westside of Shetland.
There is a Community Hall which is used by all age groups for a variety of activities – Toddler Groups, Drama and Music groups; annual Community events such as the Christmas Meal, Bairns Christmas Party, Burns supper and many more. During the Summer months it hosts fantastic Sunday Teas and is a key building for the annual Walls Show in August.
Next to the Hall there is a shop where you will always get a warm welcome from Hilary and Kevin and alongside the shop is the Walls Bakery which produces products which go all over the mainland of Shetland.
Walls also has Wastview, the Care Centre for the Westside of Shetland. They have full time residents and also operate a Day Care for senior citizens from the surrounding areas. The school maintains good links with Wastview with the children visiting and also sending artwork to be displayed for the residents. Across from the Care Centre is the Health Centre which serves Walls and Sandness.
The village also has a Marina, where local folk can keep their small boats, a Boating Club, which holds regular sailing evenings throughout the Summer along with an annual regatta. The ferry to Foula, a small island off the West coast of Shetland, runs from the Walls Pier.
Finally, the Community is served by two churches – St. Pauls, the Church of Scotland kirk and also a Methodist Kirk.
