Happyhansel Primary is situated in the village of Walls, a small rural community on the West Side of Shetland. The school has a shared Head Teacher who covers Happyhansel and Sandness Primary Schools.
We are a non-denominational school catering for pupils from Early Years to Primary 7. Secondary schooling for S1 to S4 is provided at Aith Junior High School with S5 & S6 education provided by Anderson High School in Lerwick.
We are currently a two teacher school with 37 pupils. A P1-4 of 18 and a P5-7 of 19.
The pupils are also supported by an Additional Support Needs Teacher 1 day per week and by a Learning Support Assistant and 2 Learning Support Workers.
The pupils benefit from Visiting Specialists in Art, Music and PE.
We also have regular visits from our local Ministers who support assemblies and church services.
The pupils have access to various specialists who will visit school for a block of time ~ Drama, Drumming, Science, Shetland Dance and IT.
Swimming takes place at Walls Swimming Pool where pupils receive a 6 week block of swimming lessons.
We have an Early Years provision for 22 pupils 5 days per week from 08:30 to 16:00. This is staffed by a Senior Practitioner, Practitioner and an Early Years Support Worker.
The school also has a Clerical assistant, Playground Supervisor, Cook in Charge, Cleaner and visiting Janitor.
School meals are provided daily. These are prepared at Happyhansel Primary School kitchen.
The school has an active and very supportive Parent Council.
