Week 2 Bikeability is back!

It’s been a very busy week at Hamnavoe.  Our Bikeability for P 6 got underway and our morning sports club, focusing on Archery, also started.
p1 are settling in really well and it’s great to see how they are making friends across the school and being cared for by our senior learners.

Here are the Haven club winners who will be baking first thing Tuesday as a treat for exceptional behaviour in school this week.

Here are the star badge winners.

Enjoying baking

Daily reading is being encouraged in our newly decorated library.  We will soon share information about how we can all get involved in Hamnavoe Reads, our big focus for this year.

P4/5 have had another busy week (so busy that Miss Reynolds has only got two photos😬, sorry!) Highlights this week have been learning about Tutankhamun as part of their project, creating beautiful, informative posters either individually or in small groups. In P.E they enjoyed some small sided games with Miss Mitchell focusing on teamwork. They have also spent time this week creating interesting character as part of the writing project which will be used to support writing in the coming weeks. In grammar we did lots of active learning on nouns and proper nouns.

p12 enjoying the loose parts play making dens and being imaginative and creative.

p12 went on a Bear Hunt!

p34 working at their number to 100.

P7 were learning home skills like changing a pillow case and learning to iron.  They demonstrated resilience and teamwork, working together and following instruction.

p1 made lots of S s.

p6 practised their cycle skills.  They take to the road next week. Gaelic football and bikeability this week for P67. Kids were learning the rules of gaelic football and practising doing a hand pass and kicking.

Getting creative in Friday Fun.

Lots of use of ICT supporting our learning.

P3/4 have also been learning about 2d shapes and how they fit together – tessellation. We’ve also been revising what we have previously learnt about 2d/3d shapes, focusing on properties. This has involved hunts in the classroom and times activities matching shapes to shape names.

Finally, the PC met last night.  Office bearers were elected and a great discussion about our school was held.  We have a healthy council with representatives from all ages.  Still room for more.  Come and get involved!
