P67 Farm Trip to Ness of Sound

We went to the farm because it links in with our topic which is Living Things. It was also Climate week and we were learning about eating sustainably.

We split into two groups. One of the two things we did was to speak to the people who run Turriefield. We got to see and name a variety of vegetables. We got most of them right! They taught us about planting and growing our own salad. We each got an opportunity to sow our own seeds and water them. They also had a bucket of soil where they put newspaper and old peelings in for the worms, and they taught us that the worm poo helps the plants grow.

Afterwards, Eric took us around some of his farm. We saw how the cows, pigs and sheep got medicines safely. We saw how he bred different types of sheep and why.

We saw Craig the sheepdog round the sheep and the farmer showed us how he to caas the sheep. We saw how they guided the pigs out of the pen into a different pen. There was a huge pile of manure and Eric taught us how this fertilises his fields. We also learned about the hay and silage. There was loads of hay! We would really like to go back to Eric’s farm again, it was fun!
