Cullivoe RRSA Outright Visit

As part of our work towards our level 2 RRSA award we have been working with Cullivoe Primary School. We went out to visit them and learn more about campaigning for childrens rights.

We worked in pairs to find out about different people who had moved or been refugees, like Mo Fara, Rita Orra and Albert Einstien.

As part of the Outright Campaign we will be writing to Amber Rudd, the Home Secratary, to ask for her support for refugee children in Europe and reunification for children and their families.

Lerwick trip – last day

The highlight of today was the visit to Tesco for the Farm to Fork workshop.

Everyone in the shop was dressed up for Halloween!

We had a tour of the store, learned about where different foods came from, tasted lots of new things and had a go at making our own coleslaw! It was delicious 😋

Lerwick Trip – Day 1

Unfortunately when we arrived this morning, we found out that Fair Isle and Foula couldn’t join us due to issues with flights and bad weather. Mrs Lewis couldn’t get to Fair Isle, so she spent the day with us as well!

The day started with a visit to the street. We went to the post office, and did some quick shopping.

Because the others couldn’t join us we had some ‘spare’ time, Mrs Hay arranged a visit to see around the Anderson High, we saw lots of people we already knew, and the classrooms were amazing! We really liked the library, it was beautiful.

In the afternoon we went swimming and had the best lesson ever, we even got use the rapids and the flumes!

After a dash back to the hostel for tea, it was off to bowling.

John spent a lot of time helping us improve our technique, and we worked really hard at getting the angle and force right.

In the evening we had supper at the hostel, saw our friends there and got a tour. Hot chocolate and chats before bed!

Skip-a-thon

We’ve been raising money for the British Heart Foundation, and today we had our sponcered skip.

We skipped from the school to the hall this morning, and even had some visitors to cheer us on.

Sponcer money is now being collected, 80% to the BHF, and 20% for school which will go towards our fundraising for Edinburgh.

Thank you to everyone who supported us!

Guizing

Fetlar Barins are planning to go Guizing on the 29th of October, between 4.45 and 7pm.

If you would particularly like a visit, or prefer us NOT to come along, please let us know at the school!

Patrick’s Party

Over the last 6 months, Patrick, the Assistant RSPB Warden  has been a fantastic resource for the school. As part of his work in the community he has helped us learning about local wildlife, visiting the birdhide to look for Snipe, helping with Voar Redd Up, Otter trecking and giving advice whenever asked. Patrick came along to school today to say goodbye as his contract with RSPB ends, and we all wanted to say a big thank you!

We went down to ‘Fetlar Forest’ and learned about some of the different trees there. We found fir, spruce and rowan trees.

A quick school selfie!

We made presents and cards for Patrick to say thank you – hopefully he will come back and visit us again!

Activity trackers!

Our activity trackers arrived yesterday – it was great fun getting them all set up and seeing how they worked!100_8511 100_8512

Today we used them to see how many steps we did on our Beach Clean.
