On Friday 18th March we raised money for Sport Relief by having our own version of a ‘Try-athalon’.

Sponcership was gathered from all over the island, and we managed to raise £61!

Music Festival

On Tuesday the 15th we went to the Music Fetival in Mareel.

Fetlar Primary School and Baltasound Junior High School were working together as a team. Primary 3/4 sang ‘100 Shetland Islands’ and ‘Concider Yourself’. They were awarded Gold.

Primary 5/6 wrote our own instrumental piece. We made our own instruments. We were awarded Gold.

Primary 7 played the main theme from ‘Star Wars’, we were awarded Bronze.

After performing we went to the playpark. We played on the amazing play equipment before we came home.

We had a fantastic day!DSCF6519

Trip to Bonhoga

All of Primary 3, 4 and 5 went to Bonhoga. We went on the 22nd February 2016. There were two schools. The two schools were Baltasound and Fetlar. We went to the art gallery. We were going to do art there. The teacher was called Amy Gear. She was very nice.

First what we did was to see which picture we liked the most out of all of them. Then we said which one we didn’t like. It was hard for me because I liked most me of them. Then we had lunch I sat with Claire, Zoe and Talia. When I finished I played tag with my friends. Then the teachers came outside to take us for an adventure. There was a little wall.

When we went back inside we wrote a word and we surrounded the word with other words that described the first word. After that we went in the bus to the ferry and on the ferry we got to go up stairs. When we got to other ferry me, Aaron and Mrs Hay went to Cullivoe Primary School. I played with Amanda and Tali.

I had a great day!

Chinese New Year

DSCF6448

As part of our learning about Chinese New Year, Meilo So came to visit us. Meilo is an artist and illustrator from Yell. She taught us about Chinese characters and even brought us some of her books as gifts for the school!
We all had a great time, Mr Thomson joined in too!

RSPB Big Bird Watch

Although we tried our best, no birds came to visit the food we put out! Martha came along from the RSPB to help us and gave us some great advice about how to encourage birds into the school gardens. Hopefully next year we will have lots to report for out Big Garden Birdwatch!

Monday 2nd November was abusy day in the school, with the library van coming and a visit from the Police. We managed to get them to let us sit in the Police van and then set off the sirens (which was good as the Nursery’s theme this week is dealing with emergencies).

Getting It Right…..

100_6789

Now that 2 pupils have left the school, we felt the need to ‘freshen up’ our porch. The pupils were given the task of coming up with an ‘interesting’ way of displaying the features of Getting It Right For Every Child.

Each of the primary pupils were asked to use ICT to come up with a striking display with accompanying graphics. Then our special ‘Guest Judge’ was asked to select the winning entries for display.

Drums

Often, when we are at Voxter, we are lucky enough to have Joy Duncan come and give us a drumming session with the other Outer Isles schools. This time we were lucky enough to have her with just us. We were supposed to have Foula Primary here also but, as usual, the weather intervened.

Light Up!

As the nights begin to draw in we have been looking at the subject of electricity. We have begun to make simple circuits and have learned that electricity needs to flow through a circuit. We also know that, although the wires are covered in plastic, they contain metal which conducts the electricity.
