Fair Isle Primary School, Shetland

News from Britain's most geographically isolated school

About Us

A very warm welcome from the UK’s most remote primary school! We are a small non-denominational school situated on Fair Isle, Shetland.  At present, we have 5 children in our multi-composite primary class.

Fair Isle is Britain’s most remote-inhabited island. It is three miles long and one mile wide. There is approximately 26 miles of coastline if you walk every bay and headland. Fair Isle is situated almost halfway between mainland Shetland and the island of North Ronaldsay in Orkney; it is approximately 25 miles away from both. If you travel west from Fair Isle, the next land you would reach is Canada. Directly east is Norway.
