Transition 4 – Moving Up Day
It was great to welcome all the children who will be in Primary 1 into the class along with the pupils who will be primary 2’s next session.
They were so excited to come down to the classroom and join in with the activities.
All the children listened really well to the story of Inch and Grub. They loved to join in with parts and make predictions about what might happen next. It is a funny story of two cavemen who are constantly trying to out-do each other. They finally decide that sharing is the best option.
The children then worked in pairs to build towers- one pair being Inch, the other Grub and had to build to see who could get the highest tower in the time given. They moved around the groups and got to use lots of different resources and looses parts for the challenge.
This was lovely as the children were all so engaged but also worked alongside their new classmates, demonstrating some great teamwork, collaboration, communication and problem solving skills.
The children gathered together again to be told their next activity. This was to draw something that they could add to the tower of objects that Inch and Grub might want eg. vehicles, buildings etc.
The final towers look great and will be on display for the children to see when they return as primary 1’s after the holidays.
There were lots of new routines and instructions to follow for getting ready for lunch in the dining hall. Hands were washed and choices were made. The cooks were very impressed with the amount of children who had lovely manners and said please and thankyou.
The fish and chips went down well and there were lots of healthy choices of fruit for puddings.
They all had a great time being primary 1’s for part of the day. I hope they are all happy and really excited about joining their new class after the holidays.
Transition 3 – Meeting Buddies
This week the children got to meet their buddies who they will be spending time with when they are in Primary 1.
Every week they will meet up and do a variety of activities together eg. playing games, outdoor activities, craft, parachute games etc. The class teachers plan along with the primary 7’s to ensure that the children have lots of different, really fun activities which are appropriate for their level.
Transition 2
This morning the children had a little bus journey from Early Years to the shop and back again to the school. They got to practice putting on and off their seatbelts and we had a chat about being safe on the bus.
When we got to school they came in through the gate as if it was a day coming to school in Primary 1.
They had a look around to see where to hang their jackets and bags and also where the toilets are.
The children are welcomed into class calmy and with a fun action every day.
They enjoyed exploring the classroom with the train set, puppets and craft area being the most popular areas.
The children gathered for a story. It was really fun and they all listened really well to find out where the ‘Hairy Toe’ had come from!
it was then time for a little craft activity. Lots of fine motor skills being used here to create their very own monsters.
The monsters looked fabulous and are now hanging in the class art gallery.
They stayed for a little snack before heading back to Early Years.
Transition 1
The children had great fun today creating a mind map of a very adventurous holiday. They thought of lots of exciting places to visit, like castles, oceans, caves, mountains and rainbows and we added a few more ideas as we went along the way. They met dinosaurs, mermaids, unicorns, goblins, witches and wizards amongst other fantastic characters. Each time their was a special magical or precious gift from the character to go in the suitcase.
The children were so engaged and listened really well. They joined in with their own ideas and loved sharing their knowledge about different creatures too. They all helped to draw and colour the mind map and add a few more exciting parts to the journey.
