This Friday we were excited to introduce Helicopter Stories with the children. This is a child led storytelling method that places children’s ideas and imagination at the centre and where adults write down the children’s stories exactly as they are told. The stories are then brought to life through role play with the rest of the group acting them out.
This approach supports many areas of the curriculum, including communication and language, literacy skills, confidence and self-esteem as well as imagination and creativity.
Today we started with some role play, where we had fun acing out different animals on our stage and then seeing who could guess what animal we were pretending to be.
We then moved on to a familiar story, The three little pigs, where we all had a chance to play a part and together we acted out the story. We all had lots of fun and after this some of the children were keen to share stories of their own. One child wanted to retell their story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, followed by a completely original story all about wrestling.
It was fantastic to see how keen everyone was to join in with the stories, we are really looking forward to seeing how the children’s stories develop over the term.
