Another beautiful few days of sun we have had. The children have all enjoyed spending as much time as possible outside. Again we have taken our learning and play outside, exploring the toys and equipment in a different environment. The children have all been very keen to get on the bikes in the playground. It is lovely to see how confident they are becoming on the balance bikes and scooters. Water play is always a hit outside. This week we added the big water tray to our outside space. The children worked together to get the pipes to line up with the tray so that the water could flow through the pipes and fill up the water tray. We also made a foamy kitchen outside. The children helped whisk up the bubbles into a big froth that they could then add colour to and spoon into make different potions and milkshakes.
The children have also enjoyed playing big group games outside. Group activities provide children with lots of opportunities to interact and engage with each other. As well as helping develop social skills such as sharing, taking turns, resolving conflicts and communicating effectively with each other.
We have set up some new role play/ sensory areas in the porch this week. As water play is always a hit in the nursery we have introduced a washing role play area. Allowing the children an opportunity to wash the clothes in the water tray and to hang the clothes up to dry on the little line. Hanging the clothes on the washing line provides the children with a great opportunity to develop their fine motor skills, using their pincer grip to squeeze the peg open to hang up the washing. Following on from the children’s interest in bees, we have set up a bee sensory tray with rice.
Block and loose parts play is another area of the nursery that the children frequently return to. Here is a selection of some photos of some of the creations this week.
