Week six

🌟 Primary 3/4 Weekly Round-Up – Week Six

✏️ Literacy & Spelling

The Magic Dragon delivered The Gingerbread Man, which led to some fantastic literacy activities. We wrote instructions for catching the gingerbread man and explored how to persuade our audience around the question: “Should the Gingerbread Man have run away?” This created some brilliant debate and discussion, with children learning how to share their opinions respectfully and listen to different viewpoints.

We also watched a video of gingerbread men invading our classroom, which caused great excitement and sparked imaginative ideas for our writing. This also sparked great enthusiasm for creating gingerbread men traps which have been set around the class in case they return.

In spelling, our sound focus was ‘er’. We worked on spelling strategies that we use each week with all of our words, including breaking words into sounds, syllables, and rhymes.

🔢 Maths

In maths, we continued our work on place value in creative ways, including designing Number Monsters. We explored partitioning, thought about the numbers before and after, and practised comparing numbers by comparing our monsters. We also carried on our work on time by looking at the days of the week, months, and seasons, as well as revising o’clock, half past, quarter past, and quarter to.

🌱 Our Topic – Plants & Sustainability

This week we looked at the importance of plants and trees for our environment, particularly how they produce oxygen. The children made posters to persuade the rest of the school to look after our planet. We also discussed water conservation and how each of us can play a part in protecting this vital resource.

💖 Health & Wellbeing

We read Chicken Clicking and used an online Blooket quiz to consolidate our learning about staying safe online. We also enjoyed a mindful afternoon, where we decorated gingerbread men and watched a short film of the story together. As part of our daily mindfulness sessions we introduced some cosmic kids yoga this week. The class loved the Minecraft adventure!

Week five

🌟 Primary 3/4 Weekly Round-Up – Week Five

✏️ Literacy & Spelling

Our sound focus this week has been ‘nk’. The Magic Dragon delivered Little Red Riding Hood, which inspired some fantastic writing. The children wrote a diary extract and a twisted tale, and even set up a crime scene for Tim (our missing glue stick), complete with a crime scene report! In grammar, we explored onomatopoeia and how sound words can bring our writing to life.

🔢 Maths

We have been working on partitioning numbers and seeing how this links to place value. We also continued developing our skills in telling the time by practising how to predict and time ourselves doing different activities.

🌱 Our Topic – Plants

This week we dissected real flowers to learn about the parts inside a flower and their purposes. We also discovered how seeds are dispersed through some fun drama activities.

🪷 RME

With Miss Mann, the class has been learning about Buddhism. The children explored Buddhist beliefs and practices, and even created their own amazing temples, showing great creativity and teamwork.

💖 Healths & Wellbeing

We read Eat Your Greens, Goldilocks and discussed the importance of healthy eating. The children then made their own fruit kebabs, which were both colourful and delicious!

🏴‍☠️ Learner Led Event

It was fantastic to see so many parents at our Learner Led Event. We hope you all had a swashbuckling time joining in with the children’s pirate-themed activities!

Week four

Primary 3/4 Weekly Round-Up – Week Three 🌟

✏️ Literacy & Spelling

This week we have been continuing our work on sentence openers and have been writing some brilliant pieces of work based on Jack and the Beanstalk. The children created imaginative texts about how to grow a magic beanstalk, where the beanstalk takes us, and how to escape a giant! For spelling, we have been focusing on words with the ‘or’ sound. Every Friday is Flashlight Friday in Primary 3/4 – our individual reading time is spent in the dark with our books and mini flashlights. P3/4 LOVE flashlight friday!

🔢 Maths

In maths, we’ve been getting familiar with Sumdog and enjoying the games as a way to practise our numeracy skills. We also recapped place value and continued our work on time, looking carefully at timetables and calendars. During our play times the children have been creating loom bands – we also took the opportunity to add some maths skills by learning how to measure the length of their creations.
📌 Sumdog logins will go home on Monday so the children can also play and practise at home.

🌱 Our Topic – Plants

We explored photosynthesis this week and learned how plants make their own food. We also talked about the importance of plants producing oxygen and how vital this is for all living things. The children replanted their beans and planted some peas to grow their own “magic beanstalks.” It has been exciting to see how our plants are developing!

💖 Health & Wellbeing

In Health and Wellbeing, we thought about kindness and how our words can have an impact on others’ feelings, helping us to build a supportive and caring classroom community.

Week three

Primary 3/4 Weekly Round-Up 🌟

Another busy and fun-filled week in Primary 3/4! The children have been learning in lots of different ways, showing great curiosity and teamwork. Here’s a little peek at what we’ve been up to:

✏️ Literacy & Spelling
We’ve been practising more tricky words this week, finding creative ways to help us remember them.  We have been focusing on adding exciting sentence openers in our writing. Our magical dragon friend also returned, bringing us new stories and writing challenges. The class is helping him save Fairyland by reading and writing fairy tales — and their imaginations have been truly wonderful! They have even made clay fairyland items today!

🔢 Maths
This week we completed some assessments to help Mrs Teale check what we’ve learned so far and what we still need to cover.  Alongside this, we have been learning how to gather data from our science  experiments  and Heath and Wellbeing lesson and display it in bar graphs. The children enjoyed seeing how numbers and science can work together to help us make sense of our results.

🌱 Our Topic – Plants
In our science work, we’ve been busy setting up experiments! The celery experiment is helping us see how water travels through a plant’s stem to reach the leaves, teaching us about water transportation and why it is vital for survival. We’ve also been planting beans to investigate roots — looking closely at how they anchor a plant, absorb water, and provide nutrients. The children are acting like real scientists, making predictions, observing carefully, and recording what they notice as our experiments develop.

💖 Health & Wellbeing
We continue to grow as a class family by building trust, respect, and kindness. This week, we had thoughtful discussions about how everyone’s opinions can be different — and why it’s important to listen and show respect to each other’s views.

It’s been another fantastic week of learning, exploring, and caring for one another. We can’t wait to see what next week brings! 🌟

Week Two

Primary 3/4 Weekly Round-Up 🌟

What a busy and exciting week it has been in Primary 3/4! The children have been working hard, having fun, and building our class community together. Here’s a little snapshot of what we’ve been up to:

✏️ Literacy & Spelling

We’ve been tackling some tricky words this week, practising them in different ways to help us remember spellings. Homework booklets have also gone home, giving everyone a chance to keep practising at home.

🔢 Maths

In maths, we’ve been focusing on place value. The children played some fun games to consolidate their understanding, helping them to see how numbers are made up of tens and ones. We also continued our exploration of time with a time scavenger hunt – a great way to spot clocks in action around us and test our knowledge.

🌱 Our Topic – Plants

We introduced our new topic all about plants. This week we explored leaves in playful and hands-on ways: looking closely with magnifying glasses, comparing their shapes and textures, and even using them to make magical “potions.” The children loved investigating and discovering just how interesting leaves can be! We were also  learning about roots and have experimented with some planting.

💖 Health & Wellbeing

We’ve been talking about kindness and respect as we start to build our class family. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how we can take care of one another and make our classroom a happy, welcoming place for everyone.

It’s been a fantastic week full of curiosity, teamwork, and creativity. We’re really looking forward to seeing where our learning takes us next! 🌟

Week one

We’ve had a fantastic first week in Primary 3/4, filled with fun, creativity, and learning!

We started by getting to know each other and wrote some wonderful letters to Mrs Teale, sharing all about ourselves.

Our reading focused on the story Wordy Birdy, inspiring us to create some fantastic art and explore why being a great listener is so important.

On Thursday afternoon, we revisited our knowledge of time by making playdough clocks. Afterward, we enjoyed some free play with the dough, using our imaginations to create and mould different shapes. We wrapped up the day with an energetic and joyful dough disco!

What a ‘smashing’ start to our Primary 3/4 journey!
