Term 2 Week 1

Hello and welcome to this week’s blog. I’m Magnus and I’ll be sharing about what we’ve been doing.

Resilience. On Wednesday the class were learning about resilience. I interviewed the class to find out about what they had learned.

Magnus: What can you tell me about resilience?

Megan: It is when something is hard and you don’t give up.

Ava T: You are able to stand up for yourself and trust in your abilities.

Rebekah: You just keep trying even if you feel it is hard.

Eilidh S: You can use the ‘Power Pose’ to help you feel powerful and gives you a boost of confidence.

Big Question. For our Big Question this week, we’ve been learning about life in Scottish Castles. Each group had to learn about different stuff and there were 7 groups. The groups were learning about transport, food, hobbies, clothing, houses, health care and jobs. Each group set up a stall in the ‘Museum of Scottish Castle Life’ and then P1/2 and P3/4 came in to learn from us. It was fun and the small kids all seemed happy.

Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh Visit. On Friday afternoon, P5-7 had a workshop with Eve from the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh all about Scottish roots. We learned about the names of Scottish plants, stories behind them, tasted some different plants, created ‘Frankenstein’ plants and also thought about plants that held memories for us. We all had a super time and enjoyed learning about plants in a different way.

Thank you for reading my blog this week.

🏉 PE Update – Rugby Focus

Over the last three weeks of term 1, our PE lessons centred around rugby skills, especially passing and moving with the ball. Pupils learnt some key rules of the game:

  • Passes must go backwards.
  • The team must stay behind the ball carrier.
  • forward pass or drop results in a knock-on, giving possession to the other team.

To reinforce these skills, we’ve played a variety of fun and active games:

🎯 Canadian Goose

Everyone starts with a ball. On command, balls are placed down and one is removed. Players without a ball become robbers, trying to steal balls and pull flags from others.

🏃 Flag Fury

Players move freely, trying to collect flags from others and attach them to their own belts—only one flag per person before moving on.

🐻 Bears and Buffaloes

Pairs line up in the middle. On their team name being called, they run to score a try while the opposing team tries to pull their tags.

🚪 Great Escape

Attackers start in a central square and try to escape to the edge without losing their tag, while defenders attempt to stop them.

❄️ Rugby Freeze Tag

Catchers tag others using the ball. Tagged players freeze with hands up until freed by a high five.

🪺 Inside the Raven’s Nest

Four teams compete to collect balls from the centre. The goal is to get three balls into their team hoop.

Term 1 Week 8

Hello my name is Megan and I am going to tell you what we did this week in P5/6/7.

Monday: We played race to 50. How to play is that we got two spinners and one had numbers to ten and the other had a + or a – and you spun it. For example I might spin a 4 and a – so i got -4 for my score. It was lots of fun.

Tuesday: in music with Mrs. Pottinger we were playing the Weller man on the keyboards,  ukuleles, and xylophones and we also helped the P3/4s learn how to use Canva and we made cool comic strips.

Wednesday: We had art and did cat pattern pictures. We also played ‘The case of the Missing Sceptre’ and it was like a real life Cluedo but Scottish castle style. We did it for our big question and we did writing about saving the marshmallows too.

Thursday: In the afternoon we played the game that we did on Wednesday again and it was really fun. In P.E we did rugby and we have been doing it for a couple of weeks and some people have really enjoyed it.

Friday: We had a big play in the morning and we got to watch a film and it was The Sword in the Stone. All the P6s did our last playleaders training and we all had so much fun. We did games like jungle on fire and farmer farmer.

Thanks to everyone who supported the bookshelf at Tesco during September. We raised £102.50 for the school.  Tesco community champion Derry (and also Mrs A’s dad) came in to present us with a cheque. A big thanks to Mrs Bannister and the P5s from our class for sorting the books to put up to Tesco.

Thanks for reading my blog. Have a lovely October holidays and if you are going away have a nice time

Megan 😊

Term 1 Week 7

Hi my name is Rebekah and I am writing the blog for P5,6,7.

Maths – Which one doesn’t belong? In maths this week both of the group have mostly been doing subtraction. Each week we do different activities for flashback focus. This week we played ‘Which one doesn’t belong?’ It is a game that you have to chose a reason for one of the numbers being the odd one out. There were different reasons from people in the class and no wrong answers. It was cool to hear other people’s ideas. Here are some example of ‘Which one doesn’t belong?’

Big Question – Scottish Castles. We did all about different Scottish castles and we were to design a mini-book with our group which  Mrs. A put us into.  In our books we had to write (by hand) facts with reasons why the castle was important to Scotland and famous figures who were associated with the castles.

Writing – 100 club! Our theme for this week was ‘Pigeon Impossible’. We had to try and  involve long, medium and short sentences in our writing. We did research and created posters about different types of pigeon. We were still trying to get 100%. We also wrote pigeon adventure stories and created Super Spy Profiles about different animals.  We managed to get 100% for our Spy Profiles.

Sustainable Squad. In sustainable squad this week, the whole class had to make a machine that cleans water and filters water. We had to make it out of junk modeling or resources in the classroom.  When we did our sustainable squad most of us did it in groups. Here is some things that we did!⬇️

Thank you for reading the blog.

I hope you enjoyed it, bye! ❤️
