Term 2 Week 8

Lanterns of Love. For our Big Question this week, we have been looking at the key values of love and compassion as seen in the Nativity story. After doing a character study of key people in the story, we made Lanterns of Love. We finished off our Big Question work by watching ‘Nativity’ (and P3/4 joined us too.)

Winter Wonderland.  For one of our This or That tasks this week, we had to research different groups of people who live in Winter Wonderlands. The children worked in groups to research and prepare something to share to teach the class about their given group. It was super to see all the creativity and fun throughout each presentation.

Game Time. On Thursday, Primary 3 joined us for some game fun. We played lots of different games and it was lovely to see all the interactions between everyone.

Christmas Sing-a-long. Trevor led the whole school in a Christmas sing song which was enjoyed by all.

The Last Day. We had a super last day of Big Play in the morning,  followed by a Christmas assembly at the United Free church and then finished the day with a movie.

Merry Christmas from P5/6/7!

Term 2 Week 7

Welcome to our blog this week. Its me, Esther, who will be telling you all about a very Christmassy week in P5/6/7.

The 67th Day of School. On Monday, it was the 67th day of school so we celebrated it with 6-7 related tasks. We had maths, literacy and art activities and a very chilled afternoon after a busy morning of rehearsals.

Bethlehem Bake Off. At the Bethlehem Bake off, everyone worked really hard to present the play. Everyone did really well playing the piano, fiddle or the accordion too. We all enjoyed the performances and I hoped you enjoyed them too.

A Visit from the Polytunnel. Bev came in to visit us and she hid 9 angels around the room and we had to try and find them. Each angel had a letter to spell out something and the word was Bethlehem. After that, she told the Christmas story and then we got a spot the difference and a word search to do based on Bethlehem.

The Aa Fired Up Experience. As a result of all our amazing enterprise work, Miss Mann and Mrs A organised an ‘Aa Fired Up’ experience for both classes. We designed a tile with anything we wanted and then painted them. We also got to have a cake, a drink and a squishy cube. It was a nice surprise.

Christmas Lunch. The P7 pupils got to help set up the tables for lunch and then helped to serve the lunches. It was delicious and we all got to pull crackers too.

Christmas Party. We had a super afternoon playing games, eating snacks and dancing. Everyone loved it!

Thanks for reading my blog this week.

From Esther 😊

Term 2 Week 6

Hi, I’m Jess and it is my week to write the blog. Thank you for reading it.

Maths – Prodigy.  We had 15 extra minutes of Prodigy because of Naughty or Nice. Every morning, Mrs Adamson spins the Advent wheel of names and if it is you that it lands on, then you pick a slip of paper. Get a green slip of paper with writing, that means you got a Nice, but if it was red… you got a Naughty! For example, if you got a Naughty you would have to tidy the kindles for a week, or if you got a Nice you could choose a game to play!

Christmas Concert Practice. We have moved the tables so we have a mini stage to rehearse in our classroom. We have also started making and collecting props for our Bethlehem Bake-Off. Cheryl and Eilidh Smith is our prompts, the people to tell us our lines when we forget them (which we hope won’t happen).

This or That. This week, our Animal Adventures was all about birds. For Sustainable Squad, our SDG (sustainable development goal) is responsible consumption and production, so we had to make something creative out of a plastic bottle. Here are some of our finished projects.

Enterprise Shopping Night. Here are some photos of our stalls from the Shopping Night. Thanks to everyone who came along. We raised a lot of money because of everyone who bought our products.

Thank you for reading the blog. I hope you enjoyed it xx

Gymnastics Week 5 Equipment

Exciting Equipment Updates This Week!

We’ve made some fantastic changes to our PE setup to keep things fresh and fun for everyone. Here’s what’s new:

  • 4 Sections of the Solid Box – Perfect for balance and jumping activities.
  • Springboard at the Bar Box – Great for practicing vaults and take-offs.
  • Trampette – For safe, controlled jumps and landings.
  • Double Bar – Ideal for upper body strength and coordination.
  • High Ladder – Encourages climbing skills and confidence.
  • High Bench – Adds variety for balancing and creative movement.

Term 2 Week 5

Hello! It’s Cheryl and Freya and this week we have the POWER of the blog!

Big Question – Enterprise and Business. This week has been a very busy week for us as we have been very focused on finishing off all of our products since our Christmas Shopping night is on Friday. We have also been designing and setting up our stall which was a lot of fun.

Maths – Money. For maths this week, some of it has been linked in with our Enterprise project. In our groups, we looked at costings of our products with Mrs A and then worked out how much we would need to sell things for. Cheryl also checked off all orders to make sure our accounts were in order. We also did an activity with P4/5 to think about how to fairly price our items. We had to think about how much time and effort went into our products as well as the cost of materials.

Literacy – Plays.  This week we have been continuing to do plays during reading time for us to be practicing for our Christmas concert. For group plays, Mrs A pulls out a group of people and we choose different roles for a play in a book, so we can practice characterisation, fluency and expression. We all love this and fight over who gets to take part. We have also been doing read throughs of the Christmas Concert too which we’re really enjoying.

This or That.  For this or that this week we have been researching Amphibians and we worked with Campbell and Rebekah to make and run a class quiz all about frogs. For the other one, we did the Sustainable Development Goal  11. We had to print off a map and decorate it with somewhere you wanted more stuff at and draw more stuff that you wanted like a park, pool, your friends houses. It was all about what we would do to improve the local area.

Speedy Skills. To practice our Speedy Skills this week, we got to play Blooket. We played a few games to work on our times tables, fractions and decimals. We LOVED it!

From Cheryl and Freya.💖✌️👌❤️😂

Term 2 Week 3 and 4

Hello everyone and welcome to the blog for P5/6/7. I’m Campbell and I’m Joe and we will be sharing some of the things we have been doing this week and last week in our class.

Writing. Last week we worked in groups to write a rap. We started by watching the ‘Michael Rosen Rap’ on Youtube (you should look it up as it is very funny). We all chose different topics to write our raps on but we had to make sure they had a beat, rhythm and rhyme. We then performed our raps to the class. They were very funny and everyone did an excellent job.

This week, we have been writing stories using the 5-part plan. We could write our story about anything linked to Ancient Greece. Here are some of the stories below.

This or That. Here are a selection of photos of things that people have done for ‘This or That’ over the last two weeks.

Enterprise and Business. Last week, we all made up our companies for the sale on the 28th of November. We made the company logos on Canva and we have nearly finished our companies stuff that we are going to sell. We thought of ideas last term with P4/5. We have worked really hard all week on the different stalls and even been helping out other groups.

Gymnastics. For PE, we are currently doing gymnastics and have been working on the different pieces of equipment. We have got to try out the A-frame, the high box, the big climbing frame, springboards, benches and more. It has been lots of fun and the whole class have enjoyed it!

PE Term 2 Week 1 & 2 Gymnastics

This term, all pupils will be taking part in gymnastics, starting with mat skills and progressing to apparatus work. Gymnastics is a fantastic way for children to develop confidence, coordination, and strength while working at their own level.

Mat Skills Focus:

  • Balances
  • Jumps
  • Rolls
  • Handstands
  • Cartwheels

Apparatus Focus:

  • Pupils will explore different equipment setups
  • They’ll be encouraged to create their own ways of moving from one side to the other

This approach supports creativity, problem-solving, and physical literacy.

Everybody loves this term in the gym, so I’m sure their will be plenty to talk about when they get home.

PE Reminder

Please ensure pupils:

  • Come dressed appropriately on PE days
  • Have appropriate footwear.  Now that the weather is changing, footwear can be changed before PE.
  • Have hair tied up
  • Remove jewellery and watches before the session

Week 1 and 2 Mat Skills

Week 1 – Shapes and Rolls

Week 2 – Rolls, Handstands and Cartwheels

Term 2 Week 2

Hi, I’m Freya and I am the ruler of the blog this week. Read on to find out some of the exciting things we’ve been doing this week.

Speedy Skills. In maths, we have been working on our different ‘Speedy Skills’. We did a counting challenge and we have discovered a new game called ‘Daily 10’. You have to choose a time and pick a topic and try to answer the questions as fast as you can. It is lots of fun.

Writing  – Ancient Greece.  In writing, we have been each focusing on Ancient Greece as our writing topic. We all wrote about different Ancient Greek gods or goddesses, created fact files about mythical creatures of our choice and then wrote reports on Ancient Greek celebrations and festivals.

This or That. This week, we had two tasks. Our Sustainable Squad task was to make a mind map about our dream jobs. The Animal Adventurers task was all about fish. You could do anything you wanted in a creative and engaging way. See below for some of the completed tasks this week.

Class visitors. On Friday morning, P4-7 enjoyed having a few visitors to help us on our business project for the Christmas Craft fair. We learned about different parts of a business and how to run a successful business. We even got to take part in a fun competition. Thanks to Brian and Kristina for coming in to see us.

Castle fort building. On Friday we had a great afternoon building the best castle forts ever! We watched a short film and enjoyed time in our cosy castle table forts. Some people brought in dressing gowns, onesies, pillows, blankets and all that cosy stuff. It was a fun way to finish off our topic.

Thanks for reading the blog this week. I hope you haven’t fallen asleep and managed to read to the end.

Bye 👍😊✌️💖😎

Term 2 Week 1

Hello and welcome to this week’s blog. I’m Magnus and I’ll be sharing about what we’ve been doing.

Resilience. On Wednesday the class were learning about resilience. I interviewed the class to find out about what they had learned.

Magnus: What can you tell me about resilience?

Megan: It is when something is hard and you don’t give up.

Ava T: You are able to stand up for yourself and trust in your abilities.

Rebekah: You just keep trying even if you feel it is hard.

Eilidh S: You can use the ‘Power Pose’ to help you feel powerful and gives you a boost of confidence.

Big Question. For our Big Question this week, we’ve been learning about life in Scottish Castles. Each group had to learn about different stuff and there were 7 groups. The groups were learning about transport, food, hobbies, clothing, houses, health care and jobs. Each group set up a stall in the ‘Museum of Scottish Castle Life’ and then P1/2 and P3/4 came in to learn from us. It was fun and the small kids all seemed happy.

Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh Visit. On Friday afternoon, P5-7 had a workshop with Eve from the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh all about Scottish roots. We learned about the names of Scottish plants, stories behind them, tasted some different plants, created ‘Frankenstein’ plants and also thought about plants that held memories for us. We all had a super time and enjoyed learning about plants in a different way.

Thank you for reading my blog this week.

🏉 PE Update – Rugby Focus

Over the last three weeks of term 1, our PE lessons centred around rugby skills, especially passing and moving with the ball. Pupils learnt some key rules of the game:

  • Passes must go backwards.
  • The team must stay behind the ball carrier.
  • forward pass or drop results in a knock-on, giving possession to the other team.

To reinforce these skills, we’ve played a variety of fun and active games:

🎯 Canadian Goose

Everyone starts with a ball. On command, balls are placed down and one is removed. Players without a ball become robbers, trying to steal balls and pull flags from others.

🏃 Flag Fury

Players move freely, trying to collect flags from others and attach them to their own belts—only one flag per person before moving on.

🐻 Bears and Buffaloes

Pairs line up in the middle. On their team name being called, they run to score a try while the opposing team tries to pull their tags.

🚪 Great Escape

Attackers start in a central square and try to escape to the edge without losing their tag, while defenders attempt to stop them.

❄️ Rugby Freeze Tag

Catchers tag others using the ball. Tagged players freeze with hands up until freed by a high five.

🪺 Inside the Raven’s Nest

Four teams compete to collect balls from the centre. The goal is to get three balls into their team hoop.
