Remembrance Assembly – P. 5-7

As pat of Primary 7’s topic work this term, the children prepared an Assembly for the pupils in Primaries 5-7.  They created a powerpoint to share and read war poems that they had written.  Well done Primary 7!

Numeracy Week – Parents visited school

As part of Numeracy Week, parents and carers were invited into school to play some maths games with the children.  P7 have been using their Number Notions packs to help with their numeracy skills and knowledge.  Thank you to Mrs Manson for getting the packs ready for us to use!

Numeracy Week

As part of numeracy week, parents visited school to talk about their work and how maths is an important part of their jobs.  Mr McCulloch visited P7 to talk about podiatry.  Here we are listening to a pulse in a foot and counting the beats.  We also talked about the importance of measurement skills when working as a podiatrist, including medication doses.  Thank you Mr McCulloch and everyone else who visited that week.

Gymnastics

Week 3 of the equipment saw more excitement in the form of a trampette.  This is a miniature trampoline that you use like a springboard.  The pupil steps on and jumps off showing a 1 foot-2 feet-2 feet foot pattern.  Other changes included a double bar, a high bench, a high ladder, obstacles on the beam, the springboard beside our long box and the wide box was another block higher.

Here we are in action.

Getting Ready for Our Show!

This term P7 have been learning a wide range of musical theatre songs, developing their performance skills and techniques in preparation for their Christmas show. They have had to work hard to learn all the lyrics for nine songs, learn the script, as well as following musical and stage directions. We have seen the children’s abilities and confidence grow over the term and they are really looking forward to sharing their performance with the school community and their families on Thursday 14th December.

We don’t want to give too much away but it’s going to be great!

Art Lesson

In art p7 have been looking at the artist Jacqueline Hurley.  We have tried to recreate her style using paint, charcoal, chalk and charcoal pencils.  Using these materials we have focused on creating texture for the background before drawing out a silhouette image.

The final effects are beautiful, very thought provoking.

Gymnastics

Week 2 of the equipment saw a different set up for the pupils to explore.  The main differences were we had the ropes out, included a change of direction, the wide box was slightly higher and the bench up to the long box was flat and lower.

Here are some pictures of us working.

Gymnastics

P7 are doing gymnastics in PE.  We have a few different Significant Aspects of learning that we are focusing on, but the main aim is for them to enjoy their last experience of all our equipment.

Here we are on the equipment for the first time.

Outdoor Education – Stanes of Stofast

Hi,

Primary 7 have had the opportunity to go on adventures with Pete and Grant, exploring Shetland.  Some of P7 visited the South of Shetland and most of 7B headed north to Vidlin and the Stanes of Stofast.  We learned to challenge ourselves, overcome some of our fears, appreciate nature and the outdoors and have an adventure.   We discovered the large stones after a hike over the hills and had the opportunity to explore them.  Most of us could see a ‘face’ in the stones. Some of us tried ‘ratting’ where we crawled in the gaps made by the stones.  We enjoyed our lunch by a loch, splashed in water drenched land and learned how important it is to stay warm and dry outdoors.  It was a lot of fun!
