Hello, my name is Keira Tulloch and I am the MCR Pathways Coordinator for the school.
MCR stands for Motivation, Commitment and Resilience. This is a school-based mentoring programme that supports young people, allowing them to realise their full potential through education. Our vision is that every care-experienced and disadvantaged young person gets the same education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances as every other young person.
S1/S2 pupils are supported by the Pathways Coordinator through group work sessions which are focused on building confidence, a broader engagement and also improving literacy and numeracy as the foundations for better overall educational attainment.
We will be able to build trusting relationships and prepare the S1/S2 young people for working with an identified mentor from the local community once they begin S3. Once matched with a Mentor, the young person will see them once a week for one hour. During this time, their mentor will learn all about the young person, listen to them and encourage them, making a difference to their confidence and self-belief. Our mentors come from all walks of life and help their young person to find, grow and use their talents and skills. People of all ages and backgrounds are dedicated to our country’s young people.
MCR also runs Talent Tasters, bite sized employment opportunities for young people to experience the world of work and spark their aspirations.
