Silver Cup Champions!

Anderson High School took part in the Scottish Schools Silver Final at Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Motherwell on Friday 24th March.  Anderson High were quick to shape the game against Holyrood in their 3rd year in the Scottish School’s Silver Final with the first few minutes already seeing shooters, Emma Sandison and Tahnae Maclennan allow AHS to be up by several goals. On the other side of the court AHS gave a strong defence despite Holyrood having the advantage in height, as they constantly got several interceptions and any rebounds that were to be had. The first quarter ended with AHS in a strong position with the score being 15-7 to the team.

The second quarter of the game was much the same with, Emma Sandison hardly missing a shot. Each centre in this quarter was taken with care and calm which allowed the ball to quickly move to the circle where both Maria Irvine and Libby Fox worked tirelessly to give support to the two shooters against Holyroods’ strong defence. The second quarter ended in AHS’ favour with the score being 26-16

The third quarter saw a change in position with Tahnae Maclennan moving to mid-court and Ashley Symmington going to GA. This move in positions worked well and gave a burst of energy that Holyrood was not expecting. However the opposing team quickly recovered from this and gave a strong defence and intercepting many of AHS’ passes . Despite several change overs AHS held a strong attack and both teams increased their scores by ten goals, meaning that the third quarter ended at 36-26 to AHS.

In the final quarter both teams were fighting hard for every pass and each team’s shooters rarely missing. Eager to take home the cup, AHS worked hard to increase their defence up the court and rarely allowed the ball to enter the opposing teams circle. AHS took the advantage of their strong defence to force errors in Holyrood’s passing in the mid-court and converting them into an influx of goals for AHS. Both teams fought tirelessly to the final whistle and after a very intense game. AHS showed the determination, consistency and dedication needed to win the game with the final score being 46-33 to the team.

A special mention must also be made to the teams supporters, AHS’ very own, Kevin Smith and Patrick Robertson who cheered the team on throughout and didn’t fail to keep the teams spirits high.
