Music in Early Years

A Recovery Curriculum through Music in the Early Years

The Early Years Improvement Team (EYTT) and Youth Music Initiative are collating vital training and music resources to support Early Years Practitioners and teachers in the current COVID-19 circumstances while planning your Recovery Curriculum.

The well-known benefits of music educationally and emotionally mean music is crucial right now. This resource will be useful and easily accessible to teachers and practitioners in schools and P&V settings, as well as to parents to support children’s return to ELCs and schools whilst they are operating a blended model.

When we return to class in August, Health and Wellbeing will be the initial priority as well as Literacy and Numeracy. We will show you how music can be used to improve Health and Wellbeing in your setting as well as to support literacy and numeracy.

There will be a planning tool in addition to easy guides for accessing the YMI blog, video channel and Twitter feed, tips on using music to calm any environment, examples of fun ways to create transition routine songs to help you with social distancing and hand washing, videos and lesson plans from experienced musicians on how children can make their own instruments or body percussion in order to facilitate making communal music safely and help our children to rebuild a sense of unity and belonging.
