Digital Learning at Stow Primary School
At Stow Primary, we believe that digital learning is more than just using devices—it’s about empowering our learners to thrive in a changing world. By blending technology with strong pedagogy, we create engaging, flexible and inclusive learning environments.
Why Digital Learning Matters
- It gives our pupils access to a vast and growing range of information, resources and tools to support their learning.
- Digital tools promote collaboration and communication: classmates, teachers – even parents – can connect in meaningful ways.
- Importantly, it helps every learner develop the skills needed for the future: critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, self-management and real-world problem-solving.
- With digital integration, we reinforce our school values – Outstanding, Nurturing, Tolerant, Respectful, Achieving, Confident, Kind – by enabling pupils to be confident, responsible and respectful digital citizens.
How We Embed Digital Learning
Personalised & Active Learning
We use digital apps and tools to tailor learning to each pupil’s needs. Whether working independently or collaboratively, pupils engage actively with content and respond to feedback in real time.
Creativity and Creation
Technology is not just about consumption – we encourage pupils to create. Whether through multimedia presentations, coding challenges, digital storytelling or designing their own content, we celebrate pupil voice and agency.
Critical Thinking and Real-World Engagement
Digital tasks are designed to reflect real-life contexts, promote inquiry and support deeper understanding. Pupils are asked: “Why does this matter? How can I use this? What would change if…?”
Cyber Resilience and Responsible Use
We place strong emphasis on safe, respectful and responsible use of technology. Digital citizenship is part of our curriculum: pupils learn how to protect themselves online, how to think before they post, and how to use the internet for good.
Tools, Tracking and Progress
We use a range of trusted apps and platforms, supporting all learners in accessing, creating and communicating. As part of our school’s commitment to excellence, we track digital progress to ensure that every pupil is moving forward, including those with additional support needs. A digital skills tracker helps pupils self‐assess and reflect on their development.
Our Journey to Digital Excellence
At Stow, we are working towards a whole-school approach to digital learning – aligning with national frameworks and awards (such as the Digital Schools Award). We believe that when digital learning is fully embedded, every classroom becomes a place of innovation, collaboration and challenge.
What This Means for Your Child
- Your child will use technology that is appropriate to their stage of learning, with clear pedagogical purpose.
- They will learn how to ask questions, gather information, create and share with confidence and safety.
- You, as parent/carer, will be able to support their learning with more meaningful conversations: “What have you created today? How did you use the tech? What did you learn by doing it?”
- Should your child need additional support, digital tools offer flexibility and alternative ways of demonstrating learning and progress.
