Sports Leaders (Level 5)

To develop confident, healthy leaders through sport and physical activity.

Entry Level:

This course is primarily offered to S6 students due to the nature of the course.

Given the commitment to external organisations any S5 or S6 considering this course should discuss this with Miss Walker prior to submitting their choices. Pupils must have demonstrated a good participation record in PE. Pupils should be motivated and prepared to work independently and in a team.

Course Content:

The level 5 Sports Leaders course has 5 units, which are completed within school and the community.

UNIT 1: Developing leadership skills

UNIT 2: Plan, lead and evaluate physical activity sessions with S1 pupils.

UNIT 3: Assist in planning and leading a sport/physical event in school or the community.

UNIT 4: Lead and learn about promoting a healthy lifestyle.

UNIT 5: Lead sport/physical activity in school or the community.

Attendance within school and the community is monitored carefully by the PE Department. It is very important that all commitments made by the Sports Leaders are maintained for a minimum of 10 hours.

 

Assessment:

Sports Leaders provides an easy to use Learner Evidence Record (LER) for this qualification. The LER is mandatory and includes practical observations, questioning and knowledge worksheets, plans and evaluation

Feedback from students has been very positive about Sports Leaders. It is a course which focusses on developing responsibility, communication, leadership and organisational skills. It gives pupils the opportunity to work and lead younger children in sporting activities in school and the community, aiming to develop confidence and teamwork.
