Planting Potatoes 🥔

Before the holidays we had to chit our seed potatoes by placing them on the warm window sill.

This week we placed our chitted potatoes into grow bags and covered them with a layer of compost.

We collected the worm “tea” from the bottom of the wormery and used it to water the potatoes.

Problem Solving

Every week we spend time working together to solve different problems. We have to make sure that everyone in the group gets to have a turn. We have to listen to each and share the resources.
In this problem we had to listen to each other describe a picture of a clown and see if it matched a picture on our board.

We had to order a set of flowers in this problem.

Group Work

Primary 1 have been working in groups to play games and solve problems. We worked together to create our own class group working rules which we are trying to follow when working and playing together.

A Book Scavenger Hunt!

Today primary 1 and the nursery children went searching for their favourite book characters. Our hunt took us all around the school. Every time we found a character picture we recorded it on our clipboard. We had to share our clipboard with our partner and take turns to record our results.

Zog the Dragon 🐉

In P1a this week we have been carrying out a range of activities based on the Julia Donaldson character Zog.

We began by sharing stories about him and then we drew him in black pen and built up a bank of words to describe him. We used these words to help us write a description.  In our writing we are learning to build sentences, we plan our sentences  by saying them out loud, we have to check that we have included all the small linking words.

We had great fun creating the dragon school that Zog attended. We made the dragons out of plasticine and created a scene using a castle.

We each created our own roaring dragon to take home using a paper cup and tissue streamers.

Book Week Live Events in P1a

This week Primary 1 have had great fun sharing and reading different books by Julia Donaldson. On Monday we enjoyed taking part in a live event with her, listening to and joining in with different songs and rhymes. Our favourite song was all about the Highway Rat 🐀.
Another special live event was all about the book  It’s a Party Parade with Sara Miller. During this event we found out about how illustrators design and plan the front covers for books.
