At Hawick High School, we recognise that numeracy is a vital skill for life, learning and work. That’s why we are committed to supporting the development of numeracy across all subjects—not just in Maths classrooms. From analysing data in Science to exploring scale in Art and budgeting in Home Economics, our staff are working together to embed numeracy meaningfully in a wide range of contexts.
This section of our website showcases how we’re supporting numeracy across the curriculum, including cross-departmental initiatives, whole-school strategies, and targeted interventions. We aim to ensure that all pupils build confidence and competence with numbers, helping them to apply these essential skills in real-world situations and across their learning journey. click on the images below to see how we are striving for excellence in numeracy across the different areas.
This Numeracy PowerPoint has been designed to support a consistent approach to numeracy across Hawick High School. It demonstrates how to tackle 11 different types of sums, giving pupils clear step-by-step guidance and ensuring staff and learners are using the same strategies in every classroom. At Hawick High, we are exploring ways to make learning more engaging, meaningful and relevant for our pupils. Project-Based Learning (PBL) helps young people develop essential skills by working on real-world, challenging projects.
