National Numeracy Day 2025

At Hawick High School, we were proud to take part in National Numeracy Day 2025—a UK-wide celebration of the importance of numbers in everyday life. Held annually in May, this day encourages learners of all ages to build confidence with numbers and see how numeracy supports success both in and beyond school.

Throughout the day, pupils engaged in a range of fun, practical activities across different subjects—from numeracy challenges and quizzes to real-life problem-solving tasks linked to careers, money management, and data handling. Staff across the school joined in, helping to show how numeracy connects to all areas of learning and life.

Many of these activities were inspired by excellent resources provided by the National Numeracy Foundation—check out some of the ones our pupils engaged with below.

By celebrating National Numeracy Day, we aim to make numbers more accessible and enjoyable, and to highlight the key role numeracy plays in helping our pupils thrive now and in the future.
