Learning Dispositions (Learning Powers)

 – Supporting your Self-Evaluation

Learning, Teaching and Assessment – p40 Interactions to Support Learning.

We listen carefully to all children’s views and are attuned to their needs, interests and learning styles.

p43

How well do staff use high-quality interactions to support, challenge and extend children’s thinking and learning?

Before use of the Learning Powers:

  • Discuss with the children how they think they learn
  • Use the Learning Powers and after a few weeks when the learning powers are embedded, ask the same question and then reflect on the children`s answers.

Reflect on records of children`s voice in your setting (these may be found in the Floorbook, Learning journals Wall displays…)

  • Are the children using the language of learning?
  • Are they using the names of the learning powers?
  • Do staff observe children demonstrating the learning powers without adult interactions? i.e concentration, perseverance, coping with failure, trying again on a task…
