Doonfoot Primary – Hall Extension

The accommodation and facilities at Doonfoot Primary are being extended and enhanced on a phased basis to accommodate an increase in the school roll as a result of the new housing development at Greenan. The first phase of works was completed a number of years ago and saw the infant area extended to create 3 additional classrooms. Currently ongoing is the conversion of the IFE wing to create a modern early years centre with enhanced provision and this work is due to be completed during May 2019. The next phase works will focus on the school hall being extended to ensure that there is sufficient PE space for a larger number of children. The project will also include enhancing the dining space and improving the management and medical space, toilets and changing facilities, a new hall entrance and additional PE storage. The work will get underway during the summer and last approximately 10 months. Following initial discussions with the school, architects have been working on initial designs and images which are now available for people to view and comment on. These can be accessed online at the school website or the Council’s website at www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/schools. The designs are also on display in the school for people to see.

SK-105 – Doonfoot Hall Ext. Plan As Proposed – RevE

Future works include the upgrade and reconfiguration of the infant area, the upgrade and configuration of dining and support accommodation and a further extension to include a new reception area, school clerical office and a lifelong learning room that the community can access during the school day. Parking and traffic management will also be improved.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school should you require further information.

The Big Pedal

The Big Pedal 2019

Just a reminder that on Monday 25th The Big Pedal week will begin!

Sustrans Big Pedal is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking and scooting challenge inspiring pupils, staff and parents to choose human power for their journey to school.

For the first time, walking will be counted alongside cycling and scooting.

Sustrans Big Pedal will run for 10 days from 25 March to 5 April 2019 and is open to all primary and secondary schools in the UK, including SEN schools.

What is the challenge?

On each day, schools compete to see who can get as many of their pupils, staff and parents cycling, walking or scooting to school. Your school’s best five days will determine your final position, but you can log journeys on all ten days if you wish.

For schools unable to take part in the main event we have a one-day challenge, which can include cycling, walking and scooting activities in the school day as well as on the journey to school.

School Resources

We provide a suite of fun and interactive resources to help make your challenge a success. These free resources include:

  • A school account on the Big Pedal website
  • A wallchart on the Human Body with curriculum-based fact cards, register by 10 March to receive a free paper copy in the post
  • Daily classroom activities
  • Posters
  • Top Tips
  • Leaderboards

Daily prize draws

Schools will be entered into a daily prize draw for rewards including equipment and accessories if over 15% of your school community cycle, walk or scoot on that day of the challenge.
