Attendance at School – Every learner, Every day
As we start the new session we would like to share with parents/carers the importance of regular school attendance and why it is important for your child’s success.
Attendance Matters: Aim for 90% or Above
We encourage all pupils to attend school at least 90% of the time throughout the school year. This means that they should aim to miss no more than 19 days in a school year. Maintaining this level of attendance ensures that your child benefits fully from the educational and social opportunities provided at school.
Why is 90% Attendance Important?
- Learning Consistency – regular attendance helps children keep up with lessons and develop a strong foundation in all subjects.
- Social Development – being in school helps children build friendships and learn important social skills.
- Routine and Responsibility – attending school regularly teaches children the importance of commitment and responsibility.
Reporting your child’s absence
- Please inform the school of the reason for absence via Xpressions or by phone call to the school.
- If a child is marked absent by the class teacher and parents/carers have not informed school then our office staff will send a text message asking for the reason for the absence
Authorised/unauthorised absences
Your child will be recorded as having an “authorised “absence if/when you let us know the reason for their absence and will be marked as unauthorised should you fail to inform the school. However, all absences will contribute to overall attendance percentage.
Late arrival at school
Our school gates are open from 8.45am-9am. Any child arriving late should come to the school office. Please have your child at school for 9am as regular lateness causes children to miss the start of lessons and can impact their learning and confidence.
Working together
How You Can Help
- Encourage a routine – establishing a daily routine can make it easier for your child to get to school on time and ready to learn.
- Monitor Health – while we encourage good attendance, we understand that illness is sometimes unavoidable. In these cases we ask that you notify the school promptly.
- Communicate – if your child is facing any challenges that might affect their attendance please let us know and we will be happy to try to help and find a solution.
Monitoring Attendance
To ensure that your child is having the best chances at school, both educationally and socially, Mrs Blackwood, DHT, will be working closely with class teachers and office staff to monitor attendance and lateness and should there be a concern she will be in contact with you, either by phone or letter to discuss any issues and find ways to support you.
If you have any questions regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in ensuring that your child has good attendance at school and enjoys a successful and enriching school experience.
