Panto – Scunner Who Stole Christmas

The Scunner Who Stole Christmas

Gaiety Theatre Characters, Dame Hylda and Jock the Joker visited the school on 16th  December and engaged the children in a short performance which was video and send to the Gaiety.  We will be one of the five schools who appear in the finale episode of the panto performance of the Scunner who Stole Christmas.

The Kingdom of Ayrshire and Arran has been cursed by Dourina the Soorfaced Sorceress – she’s stolen the Pantomime Recipe Book and cancelled Christmas. Only joy, togetherness and adventure can conquer Dourina’s evil plan and save the day – but with Princess Neat and Prince Tidy keeping their distance; how can Christmas ever be saved? Can Fairy Handwash remember the magic recipe and find the ingredients she needs in our community to save the Kingdom? Can Dame Hylda Rerrterr, behave on Tour? And will Jock the Joker ever crack a one-liner we approve of?

The children have watched episodes 1-3 in school so please use the link below to watch the final 2 episodes at home on Wednesday and Thursday.

Welcome to P3 with Miss McNeillie

Hello and Welcome to P3 with Miss McNeillie!

We have had an extremely busy in term 1 and have been focusing on our Health and Wellbeing whilst settling back into school life. We enjoy outdoor learning, daily mile and guided meditation sessions. We participated in a health and wellbeing live lesson on the BBC website and managed to get our class mentioned live on screen! We are all extremely proud of this claim to fame.

Literacy
We are working hard weekly with our phonics sounds, spelling and reading. Our talk for writing genre is journey tales and we are learning the model text The Papaya that Spoke. We can re-tell the story using pictures, actions and drama. We are now innovating the story to create our own version.

Numeracy and Mathematics
We enjoy number talks and daily 6 to improve our mental math skills. We have explored place value, number processes, data handling and measurement in math lessons. We also participated in Maths Week Scotland by completing a range of activities outside and in. We particularly enjoyed drawing symmetrical designs in the playground and finding symmetrical things in the environment on a symmetry hunt. We found a butterfly to examine and can successfully explain what symmetry is.

IDL
Fantastic Mr Fox was our first novel and IDL topic. We loved the story! We drew our own foxes using basic line shapes and colour, explored food chains in science lessons and researched how animals use their senses. We had great discussions about the main characters Mr Fox and the three farmers Boggis, Bean and Bunce and were able to create wonderful character descriptions to show our understanding.
We loved using our senses to explain our surroundings. We went on a hunt in the playground to see what we could see, hear, touch, smell and taste.

Our next topic is the human body, which we choose in a class vote. We are all very excited to learn about what’s inside our bodies and how it works!

Expressive Arts
We have been making the most of the lovely weather to spend time outside. We painted self-portraits in the garden and then completed free choice painting in the fresh air. We are developing our acting skills by acting out scenes for Talk for Writing – some award winning performances.
