HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 🎃

A very Happy Halloween indeed 🎃!

Primary 7 had a fantastic morning racking up some serious mileage and steps on our sponsored spooky walk from the school, round the golf course and back! We loved seeing all the spooktacular decorations and a huge thank you to all the parent helpers along the way to keep us right with our directions 🧭!

We then returned to school for some well deserved sweet treats and to PARTY 🥳…

Halloween bingo, best costume, best dancer, just dance, Halloween corners, toilet paper mummies, the Slosh, Monster Mash, Spooky Scary Skeletons, act it out and LOTS of cake 🧁

We all had the best day with lots of laughs! Happy ‘almost’ Halloween 👻

Another dimension…

P.6/5 pupils have been getting creative with resources and constructed some spectacular 3D objects!

We have been focusing on the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, discussing edges, vertices, faces and angles!

Pupils enjoyed challenging themselves, from cubes to pentagonal prisms… take a look in our gallery below!

✨ October 2020- The Monster has been Defeated, once and for all! ⚔️

Across miles of misty moors, lay the wild town of Maybole. There, diligent P.6/5 warriors worked hard to master the skill of writing a ‘defeating the monster’ tale. They battled with kennings, metaphors, repetition and alliteration to ensure they won the prize of WORTHIEST  WRITER!

This week our pupils produced their HOT PIECE and reflected on their own tales, self assessing. Pupils then shared their work with their peers.

Hear some of what they had to say below 🙌🏻😊

Welcome to P3 with Miss McNeillie

Hello and Welcome to P3 with Miss McNeillie!

We have had an extremely busy in term 1 and have been focusing on our Health and Wellbeing whilst settling back into school life. We enjoy outdoor learning, daily mile and guided meditation sessions. We participated in a health and wellbeing live lesson on the BBC website and managed to get our class mentioned live on screen! We are all extremely proud of this claim to fame.

bbc live
Literacy
We are working hard weekly with our phonics sounds, spelling and reading. Our talk for writing genre is journey tales and we are learning the model text The Papaya that Spoke. We can re-tell the story using pictures, actions and drama. We are now innovating the story to create our own version.

Numeracy and Mathematics
We enjoy number talks and daily 6 to improve our mental math skills. We have explored place value, number processes, data handling and measurement in math lessons. We also participated in Maths Week Scotland by completing a range of activities outside and in. We particularly enjoyed drawing symmetrical designs in the playground and finding symmetrical things in the environment on a symmetry hunt. We found a butterfly to examine and can successfully explain what symmetry is.

IDL
Fantastic Mr Fox was our first novel and IDL topic. We loved the story! We drew our own foxes using basic line shapes and colour, explored food chains in science lessons and researched how animals use their senses. We had great discussions about the main characters Mr Fox and the three farmers Boggis, Bean and Bunce and were able to create wonderful character descriptions to show our understanding.
We loved using our senses to explain our surroundings. We went on a hunt in the playground to see what we could see, hear, touch, smell and taste.

Our next topic is the human body, which we choose in a class vote. We are all very excited to learn about what’s inside our bodies and how it works!

Expressive Arts
We have been making the most of the lovely weather to spend time outside. We painted self-portraits in the garden and then completed free choice painting in the fresh air. We are developing our acting skills by acting out scenes for Talk for Writing – some award winning performances.

Primary 4

Welcome to Primary 4 with Miss Pollock. Thank you for stopping by to look at our class page!

Talk for Writing – Elf Road

In Term 1 pupils have been focussing on the model text ‘Elf Road’. We have been learning the story with actions and rewriting it using pictures and symbols to help us retell it from memory.

R.M.E

Primary 4 pupils have been enjoying learning about Diwali in R.M.E this term. We made our very own Diwali lamps. It was super messy and lots of fun!

Expressive Arts

We have really been enjoying a variety of art activities this term. We created our own self-portraits. We would love to see if you can guess who each one is (photos to follow). As part of our IDL topic we have been learning about weather, climate and the Polar Regions. We did some chalk drawings of the Northern Lights.

Maths

In maths, we have been focussing on number work and learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10 and nearest 100. Our Number Talks sessions have been very interesting as we have been learning a variety of strategies to help us with adding 2 and 3 digit numbers.

  • September 2020- Hogwarts Express 🚂

So far in term one, pupils from both P.6/5 classes have enjoyed exploring the text ‘Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone’ by JK Rowling.

Each week pupils take part in a reading activity based on Chapters of the novel, from Blooms questions, to writing newspaper articles, to role play!

We have also carried out experiments in class, making potions, exploring invisible ink and have even designed and created our own wands! ✨

Check out our Harry Potter gallery below 🧙‍♀️

September 2020-Talk for Writing- Beowulf ⚔️

Hear and listen, my weary warriors and we’ll tell you a tale of P.6/5 and their amazing writing skills!

In term one, pupils have been focusing on ‘Defeating a Monster’ tale BEOWULF!

Pupils have loved learning about the Anglo- Saxon period when this tale was based and have learned appropriate literary techniques to enhance their own tales, such as ‘kennings’.

Imitation

During the imitation stage, pupils created their own detailed story maps to help them remember the tale. Pupils also focused on techniques used to create suspense in a text and how to incorporate similes, metaphors, alliteration and repetition into their tales.

Innovation

Pupils then got creative and innovated the tale as a class, in pairs and finally individually! Their unique twists were fantastic. Check out the post-it note covered tales below 🙂

Independently

Pupils closely followed the structure for a ‘defeating a monster tale’ to write their very own tale BURSTING with the techniques explored throughout the term.

Everyone enjoyed showing off their hard work with their peers, providing positive feedback to one another.

Well done, warriors! 🙌🏻🌟😆⚔️
