Location
Barrhill is a small village located near the Ayrshire/Dumfries & Galloway border. It is roughly 25 miles
south of Ayr on the Girvan to Newton Stewart road. Barrhill stands in the angle formed by the Water of Duisk and the Cross Water.
Barrhill railway station is located about a mile above the village, on the Glasgow/ Stranraer Line. The village is a meeting place of three roads – Newton Stewart, Girvan and New Luce.
Barrhill is situated on the edge of the moors, close to the Galloway Forest Park. There are many interesting walks in the area, including the Martyrs Tomb Walk. Here stands a martyrs’ tomb in memory of two Covenanters, John Muchrie and Daniel Meiklewrick.
