“You Choose” by Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt

Hi, everybody!

One of our friend’s mummy shared with us that their child really likes to listen to a story called “You Choose” by Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt.

It’s a book about making your own choices about where you would like to go, what house you would like to have, what pets you would like – so many ideas!  Mummy told us that when reading this book, he started coming up with his own stories! He used his imagination to talk about going camping near a waterfall with his gran, papa and their dog. What a wonderful idea! I bet this story would open up so many fantastic conversations!

If you would like to join in with making up your own stories and ideas, have a listen here:

There is also another book in this series – this one is all about Space! Have a listen here:

Changes to our nursery!

Hello, everyone! We are all missing you lots and lots and we hope you are staying safe and having fun at home.

We bet you are all wondering what the nursery looks like now with all the changes! So we decided to make a little video for you (well, in two parts ;)) to show you our new room. Just remember it’s still not finished and it’s all work in progress!

Due to the government restrictions and because of the germs we had to split the whole big room into three (3) bubbles. We hope it won’t look like this for long and we’ll be able to play all together very soon!

Well – what do you think? It looks so different, doesn’t it? We are so excited! There are still some items we are waiting on to arrive. The ladies are going to create a mind map with all of the things we are hoping to get to make our new areas super cosy – look out for it later on in the week!

Is there anything missing that you would like to see? Any furniture, decorations, toys? We would love to hear from you!

PS – The walls are still very bare but that’s because we are waiting for the cork boards to be put up for all of our fantastic work to be displayed.

Please, let us know your thoughts! We would like to create a mind map with all of our ideas – suggestions from the ladies, you (all of the children) and your families, too! We will be sharing your fabulous ideas here on the blog for everyone to see!

Christmas festivities!

Christmas has well and truly arrived in our nursery! The boys and girls in the Ladybird room had lots of fun at our Christmas party! We played games, danced, enjoyed some party food and…

We had a special visitor! SANTA came by to leave some presents for everyone! WOW – thank you so very much, Santa!

Our kind neighbours, Porrelli Ice-Cream, have very kindly donated some yummy ice-cream for boys and girls to enjoy at the Christmas party – thank you so much to everyone at Porrelli for making our party super sweet!

We had an amazing day and fantastic Christmas party! Merry Christmas to everyone! 🙂

Let’s explore the North Pole!

The boys and girls in the Ladybird room have been enjoying exploring maps. Last week we looked at Google Maps where we worked together to find our nursery. We used the option of ‘street view’ to explore our nursery’s neighbourhood. Some of the children could even follow their way home from the nursery – on the virtual map, of course!

Would you like to join us in having a wee look at different things in our community? Below is the link for google maps – feel free to explore the whole planet Earth – countries, beaches, mountains… There is so much to see! And all from the comfort of your home! We bet the boys and girls can tell you exactly what different colours and symbols on the maps are?

Google Maps

Do you think you can find the way to North Pole? Can you have a peek in Santa’s garden?

Can you find your friends and family’s houses?

What about your local shops and parks – for example Barshaw Park?

Can you make your own map? What about a treasure map?

Have lots of fun and let us know where you travel on the map! 🙂

Elf on the Shelf…

Well, it’s this time of the year! The return of the Elf on the Shelf!

We know that the Elf has made himself comfortable in some of your houses… You told us stories about him eating your cereal, dangling from your ceiling or simply sitting on the fire place and watching everything!

I thought I’d share with you what my Elf has been up to! Luckily, my Elf seems to be a very friendly one… 🙂

Have you got an Elf in your home? What has he/she been up to?

Let us know in the comments below or you could share some photos on SeeSaw! We can’t wait to see them! 🙂

Book Week

Our children love to spend time within our cosy book areas and enjoy reading stories together.

This week in honour of Scottish Book Week we are enjoying ‘Squirrels who squabbled’ this is a tale of how two greedy squirrels greedy squirrels Cyril and Bruce, they both have their sights on a very special prize: THE VERY LAST NUT OF THE SEASON! As the nut bounces crazily though the forest, the squirrels race after it, between the trees, over boulders, down the river and – ARGH! – right to the edge of a waterfall! Working together might be the only way to save themselves now …

We are helping Boris and Cyril to share, this experience also helps children to develop mathematical concepts such as a sense of size, amount and even very early fractions!

Please share with us any stories you have been enjoying at home via the blog or on Seesaw 🙂

Welcome!

Vector Cartoon Welcome, Cartoon Vector, Vector, Cartoon PNG and ...

We would like to say a huge welcome and a warm welcome back to all of our children! We are so excited to have you back and we are so happy to meet all of the new boys and girls who are starting their journey in our nursery!

We can’t wait to have lots of fun, play in our garden, create pictures, build models and so much more!

While all of the ladies missed you so very much, there have been some changes happening to our nursery. Not only our new extension is under construction, but we have separated our nursery into two rooms and our garden into two playgrounds. This is all to keep the boys and girls as well as the ladies safe! It will be a bit different for now, but we’re all making the most of it playing with all of the lovely resources and toys!

You also might have seen a few new faces around – our two new deputes have been busy welcoming all of you at the gates of the nursery! Jackie Small and Nicola Anderson have been enjoying getting to know all of the children and families!

We would also like to ask the families who drop off/pick up the children to follow the safety guidelines and our ground markers to allow for 2m distance between each other. Thank you for your co-operation in these difficult times.

The first week back has been super busy and super fun – we are all getting used to our new routine and can’t wait to continue our exciting learning! Keep your eyes peeled on the blog for the new blog posts to keep up with what we have been up to!

A message from Twiggle

Hello, everyone! We’ve just received a special message from Twiggle! He wanted us all to know that he misses us and he can’t wait to see us soon – but for now, it’s important that we all stay safe.

“Hello, boys and girls!

I hope you are staying safe and having fun at home. I know how difficult it is not to be able to see our families and friends – it makes us all worry and sometimes it makes us sad, too. But remember – it’s okay to feel those feelings! I prepared two little stories for you about missing our friends and family and about worrying when we’ll be able to see them. I hope you enjoy them! Remember – it’s okay to feel sad that we’re not allowed to hug our loved us and it’s okay to worry. If you are having a sad day, why don’t you talk to an adult and together you can make the day better and more fun!

I miss you lots, stay safe!
                                                                                                                                                       Twiggle.”

WOW – we are so lucky to receive a message from Twiggle! It sure put a smile on our faces! Here are the stories Twiggle prepared for us:

Guess who! – part 2.

Well done to everybody who took part in our little challenge. Last week’s photo was of our Mairead! Well done to everyone who guessed correctly 🙂

Here goes the next photo of one of our ladies… Who could this curly girl be?!
