I don’t have homework! Have you heard this before?

At Woodlands, we strive to ensure our pupils have the skills and knowledge they will need in later life and we ask for your help to encourage your child to practise these at home.

Numeracy Home Learning

Learning number bonds and multiplication tables are really important as they are the building blocks of maths.

Number bonds let students split numbers in useful ways. They show how the numbers join together, and how they break down into parts. Number bonds are an essential part of the mental problem solving strategy.

e.g. 2+3=5              5-2=3          5-3=2

Your child will come home with this number bonds booklets that will help them practise. If they know their number bonds, their speed and accuracy within their numeracy work will increase.

Multiplication Tables

By starting with basic tables and building up, children can learn number rules which will make learning other tables easier. For example, once you know the two times table, you can learn the four times table by doubling your answers.

Memorising tables makes it quicker and easier for children to work out maths problems in their heads.

Knowing their times tables helps your child more readily grasp other important aspects of maths, such as fractions, division and percentages.

Their success learning these are recognised and children are presented with certificates to reward their hard work.

There are lots of free Apps that you can download to help your child to practise in a fun way.

Number bonds and Tables are used throughout primary and secondary school and into adulthood! So get practicing!
