Don’t worry if you couldn’t make it along on Thursday 4th June to our Teddy Bear’s Picnic Event – you can access the information shared here. You can also contact us via the school office if you have any questions or want to discuss anything further.

You can also follow a tour of our school and your new classroom by clicking on the link below

Don’t forget there is lots of financial support available to help families when their child is getting ready for school.

Best Start Grant – School Age Payment

School Age Payment is a payment of £331.95 per child. It helps with the costs of preparing for school when your child is first old enough to start primary school.

You can get the payment for multiple children, as long as each child is the right age when you apply.

To get a payment, your child does not have to take up a place at school. You’ll still need to apply in the year that your child is first old enough to start school, if:

  • you’re deferring when your child starts school
  • your child is not going to school

When you need to apply for the School Age Payment depends on when your child was born:

When to apply for School Age Payment
Your child’s date of birth When you can apply
Between 1 March 2021 and 28 February 2022 Between 1 June 2026 and 28 February 2027
Between 1 March 2022 and 28 February 2023 Between 1 June 2027 and 29 February 2028

The application dates for children born between 1 March 2020 and 28 February 2021 have now passed. You cannot apply for a child outside of these application dates.

You can spend this money on anything you need for your child at this age. This could include:

  • clothes
  • school trips
  • stationery for school

The School Age Payment has not replaced school clothing grants. The School Age Payment is a new payment and it does not affect payments of the School Clothing Grant in any way. If you want to apply for both, you can. Information on how to apply can be found here

Free School Meals, Holiday Meal Payments and Clothing Grants

Free School Meals

All children at primary school in P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5 get free school meals every day they’re at school. You do not need to apply for this.

If you’re the parent or carer of a child at primary school in P6 and P7, and you get certain benefits, you can apply to get free school meals.

School meal payments during the holidays

If you’re the parent or carer of a child at primary school, and you’re on certain benefits, you can get payments for meals during the school holidays. You need to apply once in each school year.

You do not get payments during the holidays if your child in is P6 and P7 and your only benefit is the Scottish Child Payment.

Clothing Grant

A clothing grant is money given to you so that you can buy school uniforms for your child.

Depending on when you apply in the school year, you can get a payment in the summer for the start of the school year and another payment in the winter.
