Nursery Spring Newsletter

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year. It is great to see the children back and hear their Christmas stories. We have another busy term ahead where the children will continue to learn new skills and develop their knowledge and understanding. The themes this term are Scotland and Chinese New Year.

Children will also be visiting the school library on a weekly basis and there will be a story telling session from the Skoobmobile on 19th January. A group of pre-schoolers will be embarking on their Forest Kindergarten journey starting on 20th January.

Our pre-schoolers enrolled for school on Wednesday 13th January and Thursday 14th January. If your child is due to come to school in August please ensure that you have enrolled.

The staff are working closely with our pre-schoolers to support their journey from nursery to school. We will be handing out a leaflet in February which gives you some guidance on the expectations for new pupils in August. We are grateful for any information you can provide us regarding which school your child will attend and we will access school websites and handbooks to familiarise the children with their new school. If your child is not coming to West Primary School we will ensure that we access the transition programme available at their new school.

There will be an opportunity for you to play alongside your child in the school nurture room during February and time in March to visit the school library with your child. We want to encourage parents to be part of their child’s nursery experience and welcome comments on the parent’s whiteboard in the cloakroom area.

We will be celebrating Robert Burns with our annual Burns supper and the children can wear tartan to nursery on that day. We will also be celebrating World Book Day and children can dress up as a character from a book.

There were 10 replies to our questionnaire about coffee mornings. Six people expressed an interest in our coffee evening and that will take place on Wednesday 20th January between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. We will try to give you a flavour of the subjects we were discussing during the Friday coffee mornings such as healthy eating, Five to Thrive, Forest Kindergarten and Bookbug (as well as some coffee and biscuits). It would be great to see you there. Six people also said they would like to have the Friday coffee mornings every month. The next one will be on Friday 5th February. Everyone welcome.
