At St Margaret’s, we have an opt-out programme for toothbrushing. The children have their own toothbrushes, which are replaced every six months, or sooner if required. They use a very small pea sized amount of toothpaste which is provided by the Childsmile team.

The children brush their teeth for two minutes and staff sing to the children while they brush, encouraging them to brush every single tooth. Each child will only take part in toothbrushing once a day, with the hope that they will also be brushing their teeth at home.

During the year we also have visits from ChildSmile, who provide fluoride varnish for all the three to five year olds, whose parents/ carers have given consent.
