Registration and Enrolment
The date for registration of new school entrants is advertised in all local nurseries, national and local press and on the council’s website www.renfrewshire.gov.uk. It is normally in November each year. Pupils should be registered in only one school for their catchment area. Parents will be provided with information about the school when they register their child.
Parents who want to send their child to a school other than the catchment school must make a placing request. Information on how to make a placing request is contained in the leaflet ‘Sending your child to school.’ The leaflet is available from any school, by phoning our customer contact centre on 0300 300 0300, or on our website www.renfrewshire.gov.uk. It is important to note that a successful placing request into a primary school does not guarantee a successful placing request when a child is transferring to secondary school.
Parents of pupils who have moved into the catchment area or, who wish their child to transfer to the school, should contact the school office for information.
Induction procedures for pupils starting school and their parents
Parents will be advised of parent meetings and pupil induction days during the spring and summer terms.
During the summer term, parents are invited to bring new entrants to school for induction visits so that they can meet the teachers and the children who will be in their class. The children are then invited to spend some time visiting primary one whilst staff talk with parents about life in Primary 1. At this meeting we try to give a general overview of the curriculum, provide details of the first few weeks in school and offer the opportunity to order school uniform. It is also a good opportunity for parents to get to know each other. Information on our active and supportive parent council will also be shared. If your child requires an enhanced transition to school this will be arranged following discussion with parents and school staff.
New Primary One Transition Visits 2025-2026
We have arranged three dates for our wonderful new primary one children to come and visit our family at St. John Bosco Primary. These Dates will be confirmed after registration.
The format of these session are below:
Day 1
Parents and carers are welcome to join their child and attend an information session with Mrs Gardyne the Head Teacher. Your child will visit their new class and meet their teacher.
Day 2
Please bring your child to the main entrance and collect them at 2:30. Your child will meet their big buddy and have more fun in the classroom.
Day 3
Please bring your child to the main entrance and collect them at 2:30. Children will be playing and learning on the pitch, weather permitting, so please dress for a sports session!
Invitations will be sent out with QR code to confirm your attendance around March 2026. If you are having any difficulties, please contact the school office.

Transfer to Secondary School
Pupils normally transfer to secondary school between eleven and a half and twelve and a half years of age, so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Parents will be informed of the arrangements no later than December of the year before the date of transfer.
