Renfrewshire’s Nurturing Relationships Approach
What is Renfrewshire’s Nurturing Relationships Approach (RNRA)?
- RNRA increases knowledge of attachment theory and an understanding that early experiences can have a significant impact on development.
• RNRA helps staff to understand the key importance of nurturing relationships to children and young peoples’ mental health and wellbeing, social and emotional development and attainment.
• RNRA supports staff to put key principles of nurturing practice in place across their establishment.
Why a nurturing approach?
A nurturing approach is the key to supporting mental health and wellbeing. This, in turn, increases attainment in schools. The use of a nurturing approach is one of the main ways of supporting children who have experienced trauma or Adverse Childhood Experiences.
Renfrewshire’s Nurturing Relationships Approach – Accreditation
At present, we have achieved the Ruby level of RNRA accreditation. This means we have involved our community in our nurturing relationships approach. We are currently working towards Level 3 (Amethyst) where we are fully integrating nurturing approaches into policy and practice.
