Attendance and Absence

It is the responsibility of parents of a child of school age to make sure that their child is educated.  If your child will be absent you should notify the school office before 9.30am via telephone or email. The school email address is below:

If the school has not been notified of your child’s absence before 9.30am a text message will be sent asking you to contact the school to clarify the reason for your child’s absence. This ensures the safety of all our children.

Please let the school know by letter or phone call if your child is likely to be absent for some time and provide your child with a note on his or her return to school, confirming the reason for absence. If there is no explanation provided from a child’s parents, the absence will be regarded as unauthorised.

Please make every effort to avoid family holidays during term time as this disrupts your child’s education and reduces learning time. The head teacher can approve absence from school for a family holiday in certain extraordinary situations. Please discuss your plans with the head teacher before the holiday. Absence approved by the head teacher on this basis is regarded as authorised absence. If the head teacher does not give permission before the holiday, it will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.

If your child needs to leave school early for an appointment the school office should be notified in advance. No child will be permitted to leave early unless collected by an authorised adult. If at the end of the school day, for any reason, a child is not collected at their usual meeting place they must return to the building and report to the office immediately. If school staff have any reservations over collection arrangements for any child, the child will remain in school whilst parents are contacted to clarify arrangements.

Whilst ELC class attendance is not compulsory the early learning experience provides children with the foundations on which their formal school learning will be based upon. For this reason, it is important that children attend ELC Class regularly.
