Wednesday 17th June: Literacy Games

Charades

Play a game of charades with your family.  You can choose topics like films, books, songs and TV shows to act out.

Rules:

  1. Absolutely no speaking; all your clues should be actions.
  2. Let your family know what genre you are acting out (e.g book – put the palms of your hands together then open outwards).
  3. Indicate how many words in your title by using your fingers.
  4. You can act out each word individually, in any order, or act out the whole title.
  5. If someone gets a word correct, indicate this by pointing at them and putting 1 finger on your nose.
  6. The winner then goes up next to act out.

Hangman

Similar to Charades, select a title of film, book etc.  Draw the hangman template out and use  dash lines to represent each letter in your word.  A space between words should be represented with a /.  Ask people for letters and enter them in the correct line dash.  Any incorrect letters given are noted at the side and a part of the body is drawn.  If a full body is drawn then there is no winner.  If a correct guess is made before the full body is drawn then the person who guesses correctly wins and takes the next turn.

If you want, you can video your game of Charades as this can be a great laugh.  Or send in photographs of any of your games.  Have Fun!!!

Tuesday 16th June: World of Work

World of Work

Here are 3 more occupations for you to try out at home as part of ‘World of Work’ week – MUA, Estate Agent and Vehicle Technician.  Have a look them and pick at least one of them to try.  Maybe you would like to do a bit of research into the occupations to find out a little more about them.

Post any pics/videos to your teachers on Seesaw or email and let us know what you thought of them!!

Tuesday 16th June: Time (Digital)

Digital Time

We need to know how to be able to tell the time on digital clocks as well as analogue clocks.  Phones, microwaves, ovens etc usually show the time in digital format.

When the time is after half past (30 minutes), this is where it can become confusing as, on an analogue clock, we tell the time saying how many minutes to the next hour but a digital clock still shows how many minutes past the hour.

Have a go at the following tasks.  If you are finding this confusing, please contact your teacher.

Task 1 (Mild):

Task 2 (Hot):

Tuesday 16th June: Imaginative Writing

Imaginative Writing

Have a good look at the picture below.  Pick at least 1 of the tasks to complete and send it to your teacher:

Task 1 – Complete the Story

Story starter!

The Stadium

This place had once been filled with noise, thousands upon thousands of excited fans cheering as they applauded ‘the beautiful game’ being played in front of them.

Now, all that remained were memories. Would this place ever be restored to its former glory?

Task 2

Sentence challenge!

Can you make a list of adjectives to describe the stadium as it looks today?

Can you make a list of adjectives to describe what it used to look like?

Can you write a short paragraph to describe the stadium as it used to look, and another to describe how it looks now?

Task 3 – Answer the following questions

Question time!

What is this place?

How has it changed over the years?

What used to happen here?

What happens here now?

Why has it changed so much?

Will it ever be the same again? Why?

Have you ever been to a stadium?

What did you see happening there?

Why are stadiums like this built?

Monday 15th June: World of Work

World of Work

As this Week is World of Work week, we thought you could try your hand at different jobs.  Today you have a choice of 3 occupations:  Hairdressing, Graphic Designing and Copywriting.

Pick at least one of the occupations and follow the instructions on the task.

Upload any pictures/videos to seesaw or email them to your teacher.

Monday 15th June: Time (Analogue)

Time (Analogue)

This week we will be picking up where we left off with time before Health Week.  Today we will be looking at analogue time.  We know that if we split the clock in half down the middle, the right hand side of the clock tells us the time ‘past‘ the hour and the left hand side tells us how many minutes ‘to‘ the next hour.

Each number on the clock represents 5 minutes so if the minute hand is pointing at the 5, it would be 25 minutes past.  If the minute hand is pointing at the 8, the time would be 20 minutes to the next hour.

Here are some time activities for you to have a go at.  There will be a choice of Mild and Hot activities to choose from.  You can complete the answers in your home-learning jotter.

Mild:  Recap on Quarter Past and Quarter To

Hot:  5 Minute Intervals

Monday 15th June: Literacy (Interview)

World of Work – Interview

This week is World of Work week so today we would like you to think about an occupation that you would like to have as an adult.  This can be any occupation you like (e.g nurse, pilot, fashion designer, retail assistant etc).

If you were to interview someone about their job, what would you like to know?  What questions would you like to ask them about their job, to inform you more about your career choice?  These questions can be anything relating to what they do, equipment they use, people they work with, feelings about their job etc.

Task – write down 10 interview questions for your dream job.  Think about who you would ask?  Do you know someone how currently does that job?  Is it a family member/someone famous?  Your questions should be relevant and well structured.
