Sewing – Tuesday 31st March

This is a great activity to improve your fine motor skills. Sewing is also a great skill for your future.

Today, you are to learn how to sew on a button.

You well need:

  • A piece of fabric
  • A button
  • A needle
  • Thread

Use this video to help you.

  1. Thread your needle
  2. Tie a knot at the end of your strong
  3. Start at the back of your fabric
  4. Push the needle through the fabrice and the button hole, and pull the thread back through
  5. Repeat this step until your button is secure (Maybe five times).
  6. Tie off your string
  7. Cut off the excess string.

Today you are learning about coins and the values of money.

You will need a selection of coins.

  • Can you put the coins in order from lowest to highest value?
  • Can you put the coins in order from biggest size to smallest size?

Task 1

  • How many 1p coins would you need to make £1?
  • How many 2p coins would you need to make £1?
  • How many 5p coins would you need to make £1?
  • How many 10p coins would you need to make £1?
  • How many 20p coins would you need to make £1?
  • How many 50p coins would you need to make £1?

Task 2

Look out the coins you would need to make these values:

Tuesday 24th March Lifeskills: Baking

Mary Berry’s chocolate brownies

Mary Berry’s chocolate brownies are super easy for kids as you just measure everything into one bowl and mix it together!

Difficulty: Easy

Time: 30 minutes + 45 minutes

Serves: 24 pieces

INGREDIENTS

275g softened butter
375g caster sugar
4 large eggs
75g cocoa powder
100g self raising flower
100g plain chocolate chips (or chocolate cut up)

HOW TO MAKE MARY BERRY’S CHOCOLATE BROWNIES

PRE-HEAT THE OVEN TO 180C / 160 FAN. Get an adult to help you.

PREPARE A 30 X 23 CM BAKING TIN: use some butter to grease round the side of the tin. I normally use some kitchen roll to wipe it round.

MEASURE OUT THE INGREDIENTS

MIX ALL THE INGREDIENTS TOGETHER: I use a fork for mixing.

POUR THE MIXTURE INTO THE BAKING TRAY

BAKE FOR 40-45 MINUTES.

LEAVE TO COOL, CUT UP AND ENJOY!

 

Monday 23rd March – Life Skill: Healthy Eating

Maintaining a healthy diet is important for maintaining good physical and mental health.

Children should aim to eat five fruit and vegetables every day. 

  1. What are the benefits of eating fruit and vegetables?
  2. Can you name a fruit or vegetable for every letter of the alphabet?

Task 1

Chose some items from the kitchen. Aim for ten items which are a mix of grains, fruit/veg, carbohydrates, fats and dairy. Can you put the items in order from most-least healthy?

Share a picture of your order on SeeSaw. Is it similar to your classmates orders?

TASK 2

Use a computer to research the following questions.

  1. What are the food portion recommendations for children?
  2. What food group should make up the most of your diet?
  3. Can you give examples of foods from the different groups?

Task 3

Keep a food diary to record all food and drink you consume in a day. Do you think you have a healthy diet? What food type to you need to increase or reduce in your diet?
