Digital Learning

Digital Learning

Children and young people are spending more and more time in online environments, with smart phones, laptops and hand-held devices that allow them to communicate in different ways. It is essential that we provide children with the digital skills they need for the world in which they live.  Digital Learning is integral to developing skills for learning, life and work.  This includes teaching our young people how to use technology safely and responsibly. The internet can be fun and useful but children need to understand the online environment and how to make it safe.

In Fordbank Primary, Digital Learning permeates all aspects of our curriculum.  Children are encouraged to use technology to support their learning, for example, using the internet for research, using learning apps to support literacy and numeracy or specific difficulties such as dyslexia, using apps such as Seesaw to profile and share their learning with others and using cameras to record performances and experiences.

We also have a focused look at Staying Safe Online through Focus Days such as Internet Safety Day and at assemblies throughout the year.  This is also included in our Anti-bullying work where we look at safe use of social media and online bullying.

More recently, homework is being delivered online through our Seesaw app where teachers post a range of activities that children can undertake to reinforce learning that takes place in the classroom.  We work hard to ensure that all parents/carers are able to access Digital Learning and encourage any parents who need support in this area to contact the school so that we can achieve digital inclusion for all children/families.
