P6 had the honour of hosting the community cafe this week and thoroughly enjoyed entertaining the visitors. They performed a song from ‘Oliver’ from the previous topic on Victorians. Then they played some board games and showed off some reading books. Visitors were also able to take away a dessert in a little glass jar, which was of course recyclable or reusable due to it being Eco week! Here are some pictures of the afternoon! Thanks to everyone who came along and thanks to Miss Burnett and the house captains for all their help and organisation!

Engineering 17/3/17
On Friday, we were able to get the engines onto our cars! We also tested them with batteries and could hear them working! Now we only have to work on to design and our cars will be finished! We can’t wait!
Hat Making
On Friday we made hats as part of our European Art Series. We learned about the French designer, Coco Chanel. Coco Chanel revolutionised women’s fashion and opened a hat shop as her very first venture. We used paper to make different types of hats which had to include either a buckle, a brim, a peak or edges and trimmings. It also had to stay on the head without falling off! We had great fun and some great designs were made! The next big fashion designer could be in P6G!

w/b 20/3/17
Hi everyone,
Hope you are having a good weekend!
Just a reminder that tomorrow is a no paper day, therefore we will not be using any paper tomorrow. As homework, we are going to attempt at least two activities from the Eco Homework Grid, which will go on the blog on Monday.
Also a reminder that this week is Big Pedal week and we have opportunities to ride our bikes throughout the week. Please remember to bring a helmet. In addition, Tuesday is the P6 bake sale. A reminder that no home baking can contain nuts due to allergies.
On Wednesday we also have the community café which some members of each class will be taking part in! We are still looking for any parent helpers who may be available to help! If you are able to help could you let your child’s teacher know, thanks!
See you all tomorrow!

Comic Relief 2017
We have lots of exciting activities planned for comic relief! Red Nose Day is on the 24th March and we have planned activities throughout the week. All proceeds will go directly to comic relief.
On Monday we will be sending round a ‘Guess How Many Sweeties in the Jar’. This will be 10p a go.
In addition, throughout the week, we ask that any children who are willing to bring in an old toy for charity do so to be sent to a local charity shop. Can children send any donations to Miss Hamilton, Miss Frew or Miss Grant.
On Tuesday the P6’s will be holding a bake sale, each class will have a 10 minute slot to visit the sale and each item will cost 10p.
On Wednesday the P1-3 pupils will have the opportunity to have their faces painted. Consent forms have been sent out today regarding this. This will be 20p a go.
On Thursday, Primary 4 and 5 will have the opportunity to take part in a Danceathon for 20 minutes. This will cost 50p to take part.
Friday will be a non-uniform day and pupils will be asked to wear something red for Red Nose Day. There is a suggested donation of £1 for this.
Primary 7 will have the opportunity to guess the teacher from a set of baby pictures. This will be 10p a go.
We are looking forward to a week full of fun activities.
Michelangelo Ceiling Painting
As part of our European Art series, we looked at the work of the famous Italian artist Michelangelo! We learned about his work on the ceiling of the Sistine chapel and the detail that he used in his paintings, even though he painted them lying down! We had the chance to experience what it must have been like for Michelangelo today. We stuck paper underneath our desks and used pastels to recreate the dusty paint look of Michelangelo’s art. We found it hard but we tried our best and our drawings were good considering how we had created them! We enjoyed learning about Michelangelo’s life and getting to try out the techniques of a famous artist.
Parliament Outreach Visit
Today we had a visitor as part of our Europe topic. Mrs MacKechnie came to visit us to tell us all about how the Scottish Parliament works. We held our own election with party leaders and had our own debate! Here are some pictures of the afternoon:
Walk to School 8/3/17

Mystical Dancing
Last week we began a dance topic based around mysteries and magic! We learned about some myths and legends within Europe for our topic and applied this theme to our dancing! We started by thinking about some words that relate to magic and spelling these words using shapes with our bodies. We also practised some mirroring using shapes that indicated we were doing something magical, such as casting a spell or riding a broom! The classroom became Hogwarts temporarily! Next, we imagined creating secret passageways and used our bodies to both create the passageways and to go through them using different movements! There were lots of great ideas and imagination! Well done P6G!
World Book Day
Well done to our two P6 winners of Best costume for World Book day! We had the scarily accurate Demon Dentist and the fantastic pink troll! Everyone made such an effort on the day so well done to all P6’s!
Engineering 3/3/17
Today we were able to put wheels onto our cars! This involved sawing round sections of wood and attaching them to our bases. We were also able to create working designs of our cars which our engineer, Matthew , may turn into 3D designs on a computer! Enjoy our pictures!
Engineering 24/2/17
In Engineering this week we created two crucial parts of our car. Once again we cut wood to specific specifications to enable the car to hold a battery pack. We then used cardboard to create attachments for wheels. Next week we will begin to look at the electronics! Hope you like our pictures!
Euroquiz 2017
On Friday the Bishopton Primary Euroquiz team competed in the Renfrewshire Euroquiz heat. Over the last few weeks the team have been working hard to learn lots about Europe and have learned lots of interesting facts. The girls came 6th out of 15 teams which was a fantastic achievement! They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and a great day was had by all. Here are some pictures of our day.
Walk to School 22/02/17
Our travel champions visited the classes today to let you know about our new walk to school challenge for this Wednesday!
In case you missed it, the theme this week is:

Engineering – Making a car
Today we were lucky enough to have Matthew the engineer come to help us again as we started to build our cars! We used saws to cut wooden beams to certain measurements and then glued them together to create the base of our cars. We also designed them further in a design booklet! Here are some pictures of our afternoon.
Turning the class into a parliament!
As part of our Europe topic, we have been learning about the European Union. We learned about democracy, elections and members of parliament. Today, we turned our classroom into a parliament! Each table played a parliamentary role and created one law to be pitched to the rest of the class. As a class we then voted on what law to pass. We really enjoyed discussing the laws and came up with some very interesting ideas! We hope you like our pictures!
Learning about budgeting
Over the last week we have been learning about comparing different deals in money. We learned how to compare different prices using percentage discounts and how to stick within a budget.
We had great fun on Friday finding the cheapest deal for Miss Grant’s shopping! Today we decided to book a European holiday! We had to work through a small booklet with a selection of destinations, flight prices, activities and items to pack. Using a budget of £3800, we had to plan a holiday for two people keeping a certain amount of spending money by for the holiday! We all did very well and enjoyed learning how to calculate all the different sections of the holiday! We also remarked on how much different things were! I think we have a small idea of how much different holidays cost now! We hope you enjoy our pictures!
Engineering Project
We are lucky enough to be starting a new engineering project with Mr McAvoy. Over the coming weeks we will be working on building our very own car in teams that will be powered by battery! We will be practising skills in maths, technology, art, science, creativity and teamwork.
Last week a real engineer named Matthew came to speak to us about being an engineer. He told us about different types of engineering as well as what items we use that are engineered. He also bought in his own engineering uniform for one of us to try on whilst learning about safety equipment! We then went on to create a design for the car in our teams! We really enjoyed the afternoon and look forward to our next session. Matthew will be in at times to help us with our cars! We hope you enjoy our pictures!
Gymnastics Stations
Today we had great fun working our way around different gymnastics stations. We practised gymnastics moves that we had learned such as balances, jumps, rolls and some children even attempted flips! We were all very confident and challenged ourselves to try new things! Well done everyone!
