P3/2 P2/1 P2H Scottish Poems

In January, in Bishopton Primary, we focus on Scottish culture with classes learning about Robert Burns.  We also ask pupils to learn Scottish poems for our Burns Poem competition.  This week your child received their selection of poems.  They should choose 1 to learn for Monday 23rd January.  Each child will be asked to recite their poem in front of their class.  If they wish to be put forward for the school poetry competition they can go round different classes where a class winner will be chosen.  This winner is then put forward for our whole school assembly competition on Friday 27th January where an overall winner will be chosen for P1-3, P4 and P5, and P5-7.

Here are some points to consider:

  • Pupils should try to learn their poem so they can recite it without the paper.
  • A clear voice should be used.
  • Good eye contact with the audience.
  • Children should have an understanding of the poem.
  • Correct pronunciation of Scottish words.
  • Good facial and vocal expression.
  • A moderate amount of appropriate gesture if it comes naturally.
  • Pupils should recite the poem rather than singing.

We can’t wait to hear all of these poems.

Thank you for all of your continued support.

Mrs Fulton, Miss Cruickshank and Miss Hamilton/ Mrs Simpson
