Several pupils from J High competed as part of the Renfrewshire team at the recent West Central Schools Atheltics Championships. The event brings together the best athletes from Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde and North Ayshire Councils.

Our pupils represented their region with distinction and secured many medals for the team. They should all be extremely proud to have been part of the district team, we’ll done!

Iris Dickie- 300m gold and Relay bronze medalist

Struan Campbell- 1500m silver medalist

Lewis McPherson- 100m silver and relay bronze medalist

Mackenzi Cunningham- 100 / 200m gold and relay silver medalist

On Tuesday 31st May the school competed at the annual athletics event for schools in Renfrewshire. Pupils were selected on their performance during curricular Athletics work and recent fitness test scores. We had a great many successes on the day and a full run down of the results is listed below:

S1 Boys

Dan Auld- Long Jump Gold and 800m Silver

Struan Campbell- Triple Jump Gold and 1500m Silver

Lewis MacPherson- 100m Silver and High Jump Silver

S1 Girls

Maria MacDonald- 100m Gold

Ellie McCrory- 800m Bronze

J High competed in the last round of matches in the Volleyball League against 5 other schools at Renfrew HS. The team was a bit cobbled together at the last minute due to sickness of our regulars. However our team performed superbly and gave a good account of themselves on the day- beating Renfrew HS and running Castlehead and St Andrew’s close. Well done to those taking part!

Johnstone HS hosted the first ever schools gymfest in PE on Wednesday 16^th March to compete against other schools at both Gymnastics and Trampolining. The event was a huge success with some fantastic performances from the pupils taking part from J High.

If you are interested in trying out some trampolining or gymnastics then Mrs Dornan has a club for both activities on Mondays and Thursdays after school. No need to sign up just come along!

The S3 girl’s netball team played their second round of games at St Andrew’s Academy in Paisley last week. Despite arriving late because Mr Connelly went to Glennifer HS by mistake, the team performed extremely well for only their second outing as a team and narrowly missed out on victory in all of their games against some very strong teams. The girls are building for the future and anyone interested in coming along should see Miss Still in the PE department.

Johnstone HS played Garnock Academy at both S3/4 girls and S5/6 boys teams at Garnock Rugby Club in Beith. The standard was exceptionally high and all pupils represented the school with distinction. In both games pupils were undergoing National Assessments for their PE course and they all achieved very high marks indeed which has put them in a great position to achieve well in their final award for the subject.

Johnstone HS ran out comfortable winners in both games and the effort and commitment shown by both the girls and the boys was exceptional. Well done!

We had 7 pupils from S1/2 competing in badminton tournament at the ON-X sports centre on Monday 29^th February. For the boys we had Dan Auld, Sam London and Josh Gray and for the girls Emma Kinnear, Morgan Morton, Ellie Spence and Amber Dickie.

All of them played and exceptionally well and represented the school with distinction. Dan Auld, Josh Gray, Amber Dickie and Emma Kinnear all qualified for the end of year finals- the Renfrewshire Secondary Games. Well done to them and we wish them all the best in the finals!

Pupils from J High participated in the annual badminton championships at the ON-X in Linwood on Monday 1st February. Our team consisted of pupils who have competed at the event before- Charlie MacLeod, Cara Hendricks, Chloe Love, Jack Miller and Alistair Edgar.

All our pupils performed extremely well and no one placed lower than fourth in both the girls and boys tournaments. Charlie and Jack achieved joint third place and the girls secured 3rd and 4th.

Alistair managed to win the boys tournament in a tight final. This completes a remarkable achievement from Alistair in his time at J High as he has now won this tournament 5 of his 6 years at the school- his only defeat coming to the flu in 5th year rather than any opponent.

Congratulations to Logan MacDonald in S2 who won the Renfrewshire Table Tennis Tournament for the second year in a row. Logan was head and shoulders above the rest on the day and won all his games comfortably to be crowned champion. Well done!!!
