Pride of Paisley Set For Date with Destiny

destiny1

‘Destiny’ the lion cub has now gone to “The Pride of Paisley” project with a full-on makeover from the Johnstone High School Art Department. The lion project will form part of the Summer Fun Campaign, the highlight of which will be 25 life-size lion sculptures, painted by local artists and schools.

The lions will be located around Paisley’s heritage trail for 10 weeks during summer. At the end of the event the schools can have their mini lions returned and the artists’ life size lions will be auctioned off where all monies raised will go to the Accord Hospice and St Vincent Hospice.

Paisley Museum’s very own “Buddy the Lion” has been the inspiration for this project. There will be, at some point, a trail map published where all the lions and mini lions can be found.  A big well done to 2p10 and the designer/painters: Sophie Pearce, Megan McCrory, Lydia McReavy, Millie Spence, Sam London, Aiden McHendry and Ruairi McKiernan.

Renfrewshire Boccia Championships

Johnstone High School Sports Leaders travelled to the ON-X where they helped to coordinate and officiate at the Boccia Games. The pupils had received specialist training during their Sports Leaders periods in PE to prepare for this event learning about the rules and procedures of the game whilst also developing their abilities to lead and deliver to groups of children with Additional Support Needs.

All the Leaders excelled in their duties and provided the young participants with a thoroughly enjoyable experience. They were highly commended for their work by both Active Schools and Disability Scotland.

Well Done to all our Sports Leaders!!!

Our Town launch

Staff from Johnstone High attended the launch of the new ‘Our Town’ initiative. Our Town has been launched by the Hearld and Evening Times newspapers and will give local people a service that will keep them updated of evenys and news within the Johnstone area.  Johnstone is the only town currently involved in the initiative and as a school we will create our own ‘channel’.  Parents will be given details of how they can register and it will allow instant alerts to your smart phone, tablet or desktop of events within the school such as parents evenings, newsletter and other events.

We will be using the service within the next few weeks to look out for details of how to register – assuming you haven’t already!
