Renfrewshire Senior Badminton Championships

Pupils from J High participated in the annual badminton championships at the ON-X in Linwood on Monday 1st February. Our team consisted of pupils who have competed at the event before- Charlie MacLeod, Cara Hendricks, Chloe Love, Jack Miller and Alistair Edgar.

All our pupils performed extremely well and no one placed lower than fourth in both the girls and boys tournaments. Charlie and Jack achieved joint third place and the girls secured 3rd and 4th.

Alistair managed to win the boys tournament in a tight final. This completes a remarkable achievement from Alistair in his time at J High as he has now won this tournament 5 of his 6 years at the school- his only defeat coming to the flu in 5th year rather than any opponent.

Well done to all who competed!!!

Renfrewshire Boccia Championships

Johnstone High School Sports Leaders travelled to the ON-X where they helped to coordinate and officiate at the Boccia Games. The pupils had received specialist training during their Sports Leaders periods in PE to prepare for this event learning about the rules and procedures of the game whilst also developing their abilities to lead and deliver to groups of children with Additional Support Needs.

All the Leaders excelled in their duties and provided the young participants with a thoroughly enjoyable experience. They were highly commended for their work by both Active Schools and Disability Scotland.

Well Done to all our Sports Leaders!!!

Renfrewshire Rugby World Cup 7 a side Tournament

A huge congratulations to all pupils who took part in the recent Rugby Tournament at Paisley Rugby Club. Johnstone fielded teams in all four tournaments- S1/2 boys, S1/2 girls (two teams), S3/4 boys (two teams) and S3/4 girls.

J High completely dominated the event with 4 of our 6 teams going undefeated on the day and the other two teams only tasting defeat on two occasions between them- and even at that it was Johnstone A v Johnstone B.

Our boys and girls teams won all tournaments on the day and lifted every trophy and medal on offer. A fantastic achievement by all the players in our school and a sign of things to come in future tournaments.

Any pupil who does not currently play in the teams and wants to get involved are more than welcome- girls training is on a Monday after school and boys on a Wednesday after school.

Well Done!!!

Mr Connelly (PE)

PE Department look to find our hidden stars!!!

We have recently created a display board with the department which is aimed at recognising the wonderful achievements of our pupils outside of school in various sports. We have already found Scottish, British and World Champions in our midst. They have kindly allowed us to picture them with their medals to be displayed for others to see and realise just how good some of our pupils do in the sporting community.

We are in no doubt that their are more hidden superstars within our ranks and we would encourage any pupil who competes at National and International level to come forward and let us share and recognise their achievements with the rest of the school community.
