New Session

Welcome to the music room for the new session. 2017-2018 is sure to be another exciting year. The pupils and I are talking about our plans for the year and sharing ideas. We will continue to use our music scheme Charanga and hope at some point there will be an opportunity for some kind of workshop available for anyone interested after the school day. Pupils in P4-P7 classes may bring a descant recorder to music if they wish and Mrs Johnston will teach the notes. There will be plenty of singing opportunities throughout the year including Christmas songs, Perform in Perth, GLEE and songs for the school show.

End of Session

I now have the video of the GLEE heat where our GLEE choir performed.  At the moment I am unable to upload this as Perth and Kinross will not allow WeTransfer on the computer. I will try to send it another way. I am still waiting for the photographs and will post them when I can.

Pupils have enjoyed being part of the BBC Music Day this year and have listened to some of the BCC TEN pieces. We were given stickers and a certificate for participating.

GLEE CHOIR UPDATE

I am still waiting for the video that was taken at the Concert Hall to arrive. I will also post photos when they arrive. The choir performed well and the solo singers and dancers deserve a special mention. The choir will sing at the Summer Fayre so if you couldn’t make the Concert Hall please come along and hear them at the Campus on the 25th May.

New Term

It has been a busy start to the term in the music room. The GLEE Choir had their last practice yesterday for their heat in the Concert Hall on Monday 24th April.  They have been working very hard on the songs and choreography. A special mention for the soloists Aria Dyson and Eilidh Duncan. Both girls are P4 pupils and just amazing.  They have been a real joy to work with and  Mrs Johnston is so proud of them.  A good support from parents and friends from Newhill will be very much appreciated. The event starts at 6.15pm for the audience.  The choir are meeting Mrs Johnston at 4.45pm for a practice at the Concert hall. Good luck GLEE Choir!

CLASS MUSIC – We will continue to practice assembly songs each week, have a time to listen and play our instruments. We are going to work in groups more this term and will be composing and inventing our own music. There will be time to present and perform our work.

Perform In Perth

The school choir sang beautifully yesterday and was awarded a First Class Certificate. Special thanks to the parent helpers on the bus and parents who came to be in the audience. Your support is always very much appreciated. Sincere thanks from Mrs Johnston.

January in the Music Room

Gosh how quickly January is flying by. I am guessing another sign of me getting old. It has been a busy month here in the music room. The GLEE choir have continued to meet on a Monday night after school. We are learning to sing the set song to a backing track and have started to add in choreography. The pupils will vote this forthcoming week for the 2nd song.

The Perform in Perth choir is established and we meet at Skills Hour on a Friday. The pupils seem to enjoy the songs we are learning for the competition. They are an enthusiastic bunch!

In class music we have been playing tuned percussion instruments every week. I am starting to see a higher standard of playing already which is marvellous. This week we have had a Scottish week and most pupils were able to play a Scottish tune.

A wee reminder – pupils in P4-P7 have the opportunity to learn recorder during class music if they  wish to bring their own instrument.

Merry Christmas from Mrs Johnston in the Music Room

We have had a busy term with the P3 pupils preparing for their performance of Tinsel and Tea Towels – the title of  the Nativity this year. They have had support from some P7 pupils who also play a part in the production. Sincere thanks to those pupils. All the classes have been learning the songs in class music. Listen out for the favourite songs if you can make it along to a performance.

The Nativity Choir has been coming in on a Monday lunchtime to practice. Yesterday Mrs Johnston took the 9 soloists to entertain the residents of Beech Manor Care Home. We sang popular Christmas songs which the folks enjoyed singing along to. They also enjoyed a few Christmas poems.beech-manor

The newly formed GLEE choir have continued to meet on a Monday night after school. We are struggling to select our 2nd song. Mrs Johnston has never listened to as many pop songs! The Perform in Perth Choir will start after the Christmas break . Plenty of singing opportunities.

Mrs Johnston wishes everyone a very happy festive season and looks forward to more happy times in the music room in 2017.
