New term

The first week back after the tattie holidays has been a very busy one in the music room. I have been delighted to audition around 100 pupils for parts in Mary Poppins. Every lunch break they have kept coming and coming which is very encouraging. Now I have the difficult task of casting.  Well done to every one who came along to audition.

Congratulations to Eilidh Duncan who has won her place in the final of the Rotary Club Young Musician of the Year. We are very excited to be going to Gleneagles on Sunday 2nd Dec. I have the honour of going with her to accompany her singing.

Pupils have been enjoying seasonal activities in music this week.  Photos and videos to follow.

Assembly

The older pupils wanted to learn George Ezra’s Shotgun in music. They have been working hard on the piece and a small group performed at assembly yesterday.

The recorders played I’ll be there by Jackson 5.

Last,  but not least P2M enjoyed playing their percussion instruments for us.

Congratulations

Sincere Congratulations to Eilidh Duncan who is in P6. Eilidh has won her way into the final of the Rotary Club Young Musician of the Year. She will now perform at Gleneagles on Sunday 2nd December. Mrs Johnston is delighted to be going along to accompany her on that day. Good luck Eilidh and a massive well done again.

Weekend Event

The Newhill Matildas and Miss Honey were a credit to our school yesterday in Meigle.  All of the girls performed beautifully at a special service for the Guild.  They were presented with individual gifts and welcomed to a brunch after the service. We were also given a lovely Calamari Shannari knitted by Guild members. Grateful thanks to the parents for bringing them along, especially so early on a Sunday morning. I am indeed very fortunate to work with such lovely pupils like those. Thank you girls!

Busy Term

It has been a very busy and exciting first term in the music room.  I have auditioned over 100 pupils for GLEE.  When making the difficult selection I took several things into consideration.  The GLEE Choir is all about stamina, perseverance and of course enthusiasm. I have tried to include some pupils who haven’t had the opportunity to be part of GLEE before. We will have our first proper meeting on Monday 1st October after school in the music room.

We have already performed at a weekend event. We were happy to sing at Braemar day. We sang some songs from Matilda and also Try Everything, our set song from GLEE last year.

Next Sunday  ‘ The Matilda’s and Miss Honey ‘ are coming along to Meigle to perform at a very special service. We are also looking forward to the brunch afterwards!

Classes , including nursery have been enjoying learning new songs and playing instruments. We have been using the tuned percussion in the last couple of weeks and pupils have been happy to attempt more challenging pieces.

We continue to enjoy Music Express and Charanga across the stages and all the activities associated with the schemes.

New Session

Welcome back to the Music Room for session 2018-2019. Another exciting year ahead planned. Pupils have returned full of enthusiasm and eager to participate in class music which is marvellous.

There will be the usual opportunities to sing throughout the year including GLEE Choir, Christmas Singing, Perform in Perth Competition, songs for assembly and of course the School Musical.

We are still using Charanga Musical School and Music Express in class music. Pupils in P4-P7 also have the opportunity to learn recorder . They should bring a descant recorder to class music if they would like to learn how to play.

Auditions will be held soon for GLEE Choir and letters will be sent home inviting those who are successful to come along on a Monday after school later in the term.

Matilda

Words cannot express how proud I feel. The cast were amazing over the three performances. They excelled my expectations way beyond my dreams. They enjoyed performing and wanted to do it all over again.

I have had such a great year working with such talented pupils. They have been a lovely crew and nothing but a pleasure. Sincere thanks to each and every pupil for all their dedication and perseverance.  Thanks also to parents for their support collecting their children from rehearsals after school, helping learn words, for wonderful costumes and for attending the show.

I’d also like to pay special thanks to Mr Gordon MacKenzie who provided the sound for the show. He is a real professional who manages to come along at the dress rehearsal and pick up my directions so quickly. His skills and equipment enhance the quality of the entire performance. We are so grateful for his time.

I wish all pupils and parents a very safe and happy summer and will look forward to more marvellous music making from wonderful children next session.

School Show

The rehearsals are in full swing for Matilda and the Cast are working really hard to learn their lines. I am confident you are in for a treat at all the three performances. The children are amazing and making me very proud. Hope you can make at least one of the shows.
