GLEE

The GLEE choir performed very well at the Concert Hall this week. The judges were especially impressed with their second song. Sincere thanks to Kim Wood for her outstanding ideas for this song and her commitment to the choreography for the choir. The pupils had a great night and enjoyed watching the other schools perform. The standard was so high and Inchture Primary were very well deserving winners for our heat.

New Term

Welcome back to the Music Room for the final term for this session. The children performed beautifully at the Easter Service and it was lovely to see different pupils taking solo parts. Seems like a long time ago now. Thank you from Mrs Johnston for good participation.

P3 pupils performed a song called the little green frog and played percussion instruments throughout the song.

P1 and P2 pupils sang a song called Spring Chicken with actions.

Now we are looking forward to a very busy term in the music room. GLEE Choir are very excited about competing next Wednesday in our heat at the Perth Concert Hall.

Rehearsals for Matilda are well under way and we look forward to our performances in June.

A very happy Music Teacher

The GLEE Choir sang last night at the Growth Mindset Event for parents. They sang beautifully with perfect tuning. Mrs Johnston was very proud of them indeed. We continue to work hard after school on a Monday up until our heat which is on the 25th April. It is in the Perth Concert Hall and tickets can now be purchased for the night which is sure to be most enjoyable.

The P6/7 Perform in Perth Choir are due to compete in Perth at the Concert Hall on Monday the 12th March. They are learning two songs which they enjoy singing. They will sing at the Easter Service if you are unable to make the Concert Hall on the 12th March at 10.25am.

Song practice for Matilda is on every lunchtime and during skills hour on a Friday. The main cast for Matilda are so enthusiastic which is amazing. A super crew and a joy to work with. The Chorus will start to learn their songs just before the Easter break.

The afternoon nursery children sang their Scottish songs at the Burns Assembly. They did very well indeed.

The recorder group are working on a piece for the Easter service and rising to the challenge.

After the midterm all the classes will be learning their piece for the Easter Service. We have a variety of presentations to look forward to and hopefully enjoy.

New Term/New Year

It has been a busy start to the new term in the music room. The Matilda auditions took place last week. Plenty of interested pupils and now Mrs Johnston will start working with the main parts. Those pupils that are in the chorus will start learning the routines and songs after the mid-term.

The perform in Perth Choir has been formed and P6/P7 pupils have started learning the songs.

GLEE choir continues to meet on a Monday after school and we are preparing for our heat which is to take place in the Perth Concert Hall on 25th April.

The Nativity in the church was so sweet. Special thanks to Mrs Aird who organised their costumes making them look lovely.

Events

A group of pupils attended an event called Hamish Matters in the Blairgowrie Library and sang 2 songs.

Some keen pupils met on a Saturday and sang in town and down at the Wellmeadow when the Christmas lights were switched on.

New Term

The  term is already going in so fast. We have had a busy return to school in the music room. GLEE Choir has now met a couple of times and we have already chosen our second song which we are looking forward to learning. The Nursery children came along to the music room in groups this week for some seasonal activities which was lovely.

.

The soloists for Christmas have been selected and are going to start on their pieces today. Over 40 pupils auditioned for a solo part so well done to those who were successful. Come along to our Christmas Service in the Church at end of term and enjoy their singing.

The classes have also been enjoying the 2nd edition of Music Express. A music scheme which has been given to schools in Perth and Kinross. We will continue to use Charanga which the pupils respond so well to.

End of term

It has been a very busy term in the music room. Recently we have been celebrating the festival of harvest.

The GLEE choir has now been formed and will meet on the first day back next term, Monday 23rd October. 3.15pm-4pm every Monday up until Christmas. The time may be extended in January but notice will be given. There is a waiting list for pupils still wishing to participate. We look forward to learning the set song – Try Everything and selecting our own choice song.

Auditions for solo singing parts at Christmas will take place on Tuesday 24th October during the lunch break in the music room.

All best wishes for a safe and happy October holiday.

Music Room Update

Pupils continue to enjoy learning how to play instruments and the pieces from Charanga are especially popular. A few pupils are bringing their descant recorder along to the music class and are making good progress. This week we have been singing I can hear a number to tie in with Maths week. The younger children have also been singing counting songs from the freestyle section in Charanga.IMG_4261

The GLEE Choir singing auditions have taken place this week. 84 pupils have auditioned from the P4-P7 classes. Marvellous to have so many keen pupils. The dancing auditions will take place next Tuesday. Then Mrs Johnston and Mrs Wood will have the very difficult task of selecting 40 pupils to go forward. Those that are successful will get a letter the following week and the Choir will start after the October break and be on every Monday that school is on. I can already say that the heats for Perth and Kinross Choirs will be on 23rd, 24th, 25th April 2018 in the Perth Concert Hall. As soon as I know when Newhill will be performing I will let you know and the date can be saved.
