Inside Our School and Nursery
Our Primary school comprises one large classroom, where we also eat lunch, and our ‘Lyon Room’, which is accessed via a lovely sunny glass corridor. We enjoy lots of activities there, for example, music, drama and Gaelic. Our Nursery is situated at the end of our glass corridor, and is regularly used for baking activities and small group work when nursery are not in school (Thursdays and Fridays). Our school is well organised, with bright and attractive displays of pupil work, and we work hard to look after it: all pupils, from the earliest age, are encouraged to take on responsibilities to help us look after our lovely environment.
Outside Our School and Nursery
We are fortunate to enjoy the use of great gardens and grounds around our school, made up of:
- a large tarmacked area, perfect for games of tig, skipping, tennis, cycling and basketball, to name but a few! We have lots of vehicles for all ages, and a good range of playground games and equipment. We use this area regularly for cycle training and workshops, and for outdoor learning.
- A huge grassed area, with swings, climbing frame, nature den, play hut and willow den, regularly used for outdoor learning activities.
- A greenhouse area, for school grounds, planting and eco schools work, and an ‘allotment’ where we regularly plant all kinds of vegetables.
- A beautiful Outdoor Learning Classroom at the front of our school, planned and funded by our Parent Council, and built/ furnished with local larch timber. This overlooks the river and mountains, and is a great place to learn, play and lunch!
Community Links
We have active links with organisations and businesses in our local area and outwith, and work closely with them to develop the skills of all of our pupils. In recent years we have worked with Meggernie Estate on a ‘Salmon in the Classroom’ project and Aberfeldy Fairtrade Group to perform a Fairtrade Fashion Show. Highland Perthshire Cycling have helped us to develop our cycling skills, road sense, and understanding of sustainable transport options, whilst Meggernie Outdoor Centre regularly assist with orienteering training, yearly First Aid update training and eco/nature studies.
Our school is well supported locally, with good attendance at school fundraising coffee mornings by members of our local community, and at all school performances, showcases and events.
We are also well supported by local representatives from the NHS, Fire Service and Library service.
School and Nursery Fundraising
We raise funds every year for both our school fund, and for various charities. School funds are used to pay for trips, visits and exciting supplementary activities/resources, to enhance the learning in our school. Pupils and parents are always involved in developing spending plans and priorities, through Pupil and Parent Council Meetings.
Every year we support various charities such as Macmillan Cancer Care, Poppy Appeal and Comic Relief. In addition, pupils choose other charities to support with funds raised from termly non-uniform days, and for our yearly Christmas Show collections. Most recently, pupils have chosen to support the World Wildlife Fund, The Scottish Charity Air Ambulance (which has served our rural community well) and Yorkhill Children’s Hospital. In addition, we are very proud that several of our pupils have chosen to fundraise independently for specific charities of their choice.

Duty of Candour
All health and social care services in Scotland have a duty of candour. This is a legal requirement which means that when things go wrong and mistakes happen, the people affected understand what has happened, receive an apology, and that organisations learn how to improve for the future. An important part of this duty is that we provide an annual report about the duty of candour in our services.
